Samsung SC-HMX20C

If ease of use is your number one priority, then Samsung's SC-HMX20C high-def camcorder ($849.99 list) is ideal. Not only is it simple to operate, but it's also one of the most compact full-featured models we've tested. What's more, you don't even have...

Unique, compact design. Touch screen. Expandable storage. Super-simple file transfers. Supports HDMI CEC technology. Excellent editing and Blu-ray burning software

Video looks underexposed. Noticeable purple fringing. Can feel a bit awkward in hand. No optical viewfinder. No HDMI-out on camera itself ; must use bundled docking station

Samsung's small, sleek SC-HMX20C camcorder is dead simple to operate, but Canon and Sony reign supreme in video image quality.

Samsung SC-HMX20C

The Samsung SC-HMX20C ($850 as of September 29, 2008) is one of the sleekest-looking camcorders around. Even in a crowded field of camcorders, its eye-catching, bulletlike form is sure to turn heads. Alas, the camera's image quality and operating...

Good-looking design ; Great menu controls

Digital image stabilization is inferior to optical ; Shaky Mac suppor

Flash-based camcorder has a cool design and records high-definition video of reasonable quality.

Samsung HMX20C High-Def Camcorder

With the Samsung HMX10A previously receiving a splendid review I was excited to hear about the new HMX20C. With the 20C they've taken the camera up to the full 1080p, used a higher quality image sensor, added a flash and also done a list full of other...

Excellent quality 1080p videos ; Picture quality is certainly good for 4 megapixels ; Mounts just like a removable drive to access your videos on your PC ; Hand strap is a comfort improvement over the HMX10A ; Plenty of settings and adjustments for...

Lens focal length might be bothersome for some users (and some may never notice it too) ; Lack of HDMI port right on the camera ; Wait, where is my HDMI cable

Overall, I was incredibly pleased with the Samsung HMX20C. Just like any camera, it has a huge list of ups and of course a few downs as well. How you take these pros and cons will completely depend on how you plan to use this camera. It's very likely...

Samsung SC-HMX20C High Definition Camcorder

In our last Samsung digital camcorder review we had an entry camera with ample features to learn with. The SC-HMX20C is meant for those wanting the best video quality. Priced close to one grand, 1920×1080 30p recording, built-in digital camera and...

1920×1080 recording ; Simple to use camcorder software ; Remote control is great add-on ; 8GB internal memory in additional to flash ; Compact size and comfortable fit ; Touchscreen interface for easy navigation

Packaged software feels incomplete ; Remote control does not allow you to switch between video, photo and preview mode ; Slow motion recording has limited resolution

So where do we stand with the Samsung SC-HMX20C? Given that it is priced well under 1K, it makes for an affordable high definition camera. In good lighting, the camcorder excels at capturing the moment but it falls behind in low light conditions. ...

Review: Samsung SC-HMX20C HD Camcorder

Samsung's HMX20C camcorder has been out for almost a year now but for many consumers that may actually be a good thing. Normally we focus on buying the newest gear available so it will be usable as long as possible, but for certain purchases-especially...

Samsung SC-HMX20C High Definition Digital Camcorder Review

Earlier this spring, we reviewed Samsung's SC-HMX10A, an HD camcorder that gave us a 1080i resolution, touch screen controls and photo functionality, all in a package not much bigger than a Coke Can. Although we were…

A sturdy and well built product ; Thanks for the useful remote control ; Comfortable compact size makes filming a joy ; Slo-Motion feature is cool for those EPIC moments ; Digging the record light cut off for those stealth recording missions ; Very...

The camera side of this duo has got to go ; Lens is far too long to be practical in close quarters ; We require more EPIC slo-mo time and we need it in HD ; Some low light performance issues

I’m gong to keep this really short. If I was Samsung, I would immediately stop trying to make this into a camera/camcorder and make it into a camcorder. For me, there is just too much to work on to the camera to work like a regular extension of your...

Review: Samsung SC-HMX20C HD Camcorder

I've used a lot of Samsung cameras and camcorders over the years, and this is easily the most satisfying of the lot. Its operation is smooth and intuitive, and the video quality looks smashing on an HDTV.

Archiving your movies to a PC will eat up a lot of hard drive space (get an external backup) or you can back it up to a Blu-ray disc. PC connection is via USB. The files will play on a PS3. The camera ships with a copy of Cyberlink DVD Suite, battery...
