Motorola AURA: a halo effect

What exactly is the point in producing a $2000 phone when the economy is taking a nosedive? We ask if Motorola are just in it for the AURA's halo effect.

Motorola AURA mobile phone

Are you looking for a mobile phone that's crafted from stainless steel, features Swiss-made bearings and costs more than $3K? Probably not, but this doesn't make Motorola's AURA any less cool

Superb design and craftsmanship, circular display with crisp and vivid colour, swivelling slider, 2GB internal memory

Lacks some basic features, poor keypad, slow UI, no 3G (or Wi-Fi or GPS or 3.5mm headphone jack), circular display

Motorola's AURA is a superb piece of industrial design. Unfortunately, it lacks even the most basic features, such as 3G connectivity. We love the circular display and the stainless-steel body. However, at the end of the day, if you pay over $3000 for...

Motorola dishes out a fashionable phone with a "fashionable" price to match.

Motorola AURA review

High of price, low of spec, Motorola's latest goes to extremes

Classy stainless steel body ; Swivel action ; Unique circular screen ; Top quality build

No 3G ; No Wi-Fi ; Standard 2-megapixel camera ; Very, very expensive

Stylish certainly, but its lack of up-to-date tech will count against it for many

Motorola Aura mobile phone - First Look

Circular display, well built

Doesn't really do anything bar make calls, expensive

Motorola Aura

The Aura sports a basic 2-megapixel camera, a mediocre media player and a clunky user interface. But who cares? This handset is a stone-cold stunner.

Gorgeous screen ; Groovy rotating cover with visible gears ; Etched stainless-steel body ; Weighty, quality feel

Clunky user interface ; No full-screen video playback ; Unpleasant web browsing

It's not good for much besides making calls, but its stunning screen, stainless-steel body and rotating cover are certainly glamorous. If you have deep pockets and you're not worried about advanced features like surfing the web, the Aura could be for you.
