Oppo N3 review: Twist again: Oppo improves on its swivel camera phone

Let's be honest, most smartphones have very similar features -- a longish rectangular body, powerful chips and a camera on the front and back, albeit with different megapixel counts. Oppo went out on a limb last year with the N1 , whose camera was...

The Oppo N3's motorized swivel camera takes automatic panoramic shots and top quality selfies -- without having to flip the phone around.

The phone feels heavy, and you have to be careful when putting it in your pocket to avoid accidentally damaging the camera's swivel. That leather looks horrible, and 4G LTE support varies by country.

The N3 is definitely an upgrade to the N1, but its unadventurous body means you'll really only want this for the innovative camera.

Oppo N3 ( white)

Novelties usually come with drawbacks, however. The camera module is separate from the chassis, making for a thicker phone, and unlike the slim and lightweight devices you see from its competitors, Oppo's N3 feels thick and heavy.

Oppo N3 review: Motor head

The formula for the smartphone to top all others is the industry's elusive philosopher stone. Being complete newbies, but keen as a bean, Oppo's take is perhaps the weirdest. Yet it seems to work.

Optional Dual-SIM (micro SIM resides in microSD card slot) ; 5.5" IPS LCD display of 1080 x 1920px resolution, around 403ppi ; Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Color OS 2.0 on top ; Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, quad-core 2.2GHz Krait 400 processor, Adreno...

No 4K video recording yet ; Comparably large and heavy for the screen size ; QHD resolution would have been nice ; No FM radio or IR blaster (we're nitpicking because of the high asking price) ; Hard to get in brick-and-mortar stores outside of Asia

It's clear the Oppo N3 is more than just a robust cameraphone with a quirky motorized lens - it's Oppo's current flagship. The Oppo Find 7 may have something to say about that with its 5.5" QHD display, 3GB of RAM and stereo speakers but it can't...

Oppo N3 (Unlocked)

Unabashedly unorthodox, the powerful Oppo N3 will turn heads with its rotating camera and unique design, although there are better deals for unlocked Android smartphones.

Long battery life. Unique rotating camera. Sharp 5.5-inch LCD. Reliable fingerprint scanner

Awkward port placement. Heavily skinned Android

Undeniably inventive, but needlessly innovative. Such is the state of smartphone design progress these days, embodied by devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. Oppo doesn't dabble in curved displays for its first major U.S. release, but with a...

Oppo N3 and R5 hands-on: First look

Oppo's Singapore event is now under way and we were off to a great show - the star of the show took the stage just minutes after the start. The successor to the Oppo N1 is called Oppo N3 and retains the rotating camera module on the top, while adding a...

Oppo N3 review

Oppo's at it again! After treating us to the unorthodox Oppo N1 colossus more than a year ago, this China-based handset maker is now trying to woo us with its successor, the Oppo N3. Oppo made a sturdy, well-built handset with an intriguing motorized...

Sturdy build ; The motorized camera is a zinger ; The fingerprint sensor is actually useful ; Charges quite fast

Dim, inaccurate display ; Mediocre battery life ; Not enough value for the money

The Oppo N3 is definitely not a bad phone, but it leaves a prominent “meh” aftertaste in our mouths. While it's certainly an improvement over the Oppo N1 in certain areas, it also proves to be a serious downgrade in some substantial ones. We can't help...

OPPO N3 Review

The N3 is the successor to the OPPO N1. Like the original the N3 also has a rotating camera module but instead of having to rotate it yourself, OPPO have bundled it with a motor that does the job for you. It builds on the same design as well but opts...

Good Image Quality; Great Auto Panorama Mode; O-Click Remote; Fingerprint Sensor; Good Audio Quality; Good Screen

Battery Life; Size; Outdated Software; No 4K Video Recording Support (Yet)

Overall the OPPO N3 is quite a good smartphone with more positives than negatives. It is quite large, has average battery life, lacks 4K video support and runs on outdated software. However the last two aspects is something that a software update will...

Oppo N3 Review

We take a closer look at Oppo's take on the selfie game in this comprehensive review of the Oppo N3!

5.5 inch screen makes this a much better handler than the N1 ; Clean white color compliments phone's general aesthetics ; Snapdragon 801 continues to be very reliable ; O-Touch fingerprint scanning is implemented very well ; Dual-SIM standard ; Camera...

Rotating camera and O-Touch have questionable looks ; Headphone jack and charging port in uncommon spots ; Display is bad in bright conditions ; Battery life could have been much better

OPPO N3: Camera Review

The OPPO N3 is the latest flagship from OPPO and like its N1 predecessor, it has a swivel camera. But new for this year is the addition of a motor to the swivel which makes for some really interesting abilities!

All these features put together result to a considerably different type of camera. It has certainly changed the way users take photos. Generally, standard photos can come out really nice. It can take 16MP photos with HDR modes and other modes at the...
