Samsung Galaxy S8 Active review

The Galaxy S8 Active stands up to concrete, water, and whatever else you throw its way.

Durable design ; Long-lasting battery ; Speedy processor ; Great camera

Weak speaker ; Chunky looks

The Galaxy S8 Active is the Galaxy S8 in different clothing — perhaps a waterproof, shock-resistant vest. For the most part, it’s uncompromising. On the inside there’s the same processor, storage, sensors, and radios as the S8, and Samsung has taken...

Your less breakable Galaxy S8 with a 24-hour battery is here

The Galaxy S8 Active toughens up Samsung's everyday phone.

The Galaxy S8 Active has an all-day battery -- about 24 hours in our tests -- and has a sturdier body that’s basically a built-in case. It keeps the S8’s waterproofing and wireless charging.

Its flat screen isn’t as sharp as the regular S8's, and the S8 Active does away with the hardware buttons that helped give the original its identity.

The Galaxy S8 Active is a great phone, but if battery life isn’t your top concern, you’ll save money buying a regular Galaxy S8 and a case.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Active

The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active takes the best phone of the year, makes it tougher, and packs in a bigger battery. It's the ultimate rugged phone—but it's only available on AT&T.

Rugged build. Gorgeous screen. Best processor and modem available. Long-lasting battery.

Not available on carriers other than AT&T. Some bloatware.

For a $100 premium over the standard S8, the Galaxy S8 Active gets you more battery life and increased durability. If you're looking for a phone that can stand up to abuse and doesn't compromise on performance, it's your best option and our Editors'...

Samsung Galaxy S8 Active Review

This year we see arguably the Android phone of the year – the Galaxy S8 – step up 1000 milliamps in battery size, and gain all the rugged military-grade hardware to produce the Galaxy S8 Active. But in a world where IP67 is the norm for flagship phones...

Military standards in durability and resilience ; Same excellent camera as the S8, excels in low-light and quick focus ; Squeezes a little more battery life than the original S8 ; Bixby much improved

Like it or not, it’s a heavier device than normal S8 ; Camera has a tendency to add a yellowish tint in certain scenes

Samsung’s rugged Galaxy S8 Active hits Sprint and T-Mobile this month

Samsung's has an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, which means the phone can survive a 30 minute dip in pools of water up to 3 feet deep. But if you want a phone that's not just waterproof, but which also has a rugged case, a big battery, and...

The phone measures about 6″ x 3″ 0.4″ and weighs about 7.3 ounces.

Review: Samsung Galaxy S8 Active

Samsung's Galaxy S8 Active is a rugged version of the company's flagship Android smartphone. If you favor form over function, the Active delivers in spades. It includes all the great features of the S8 and packs them into a far tougher form factor that...

The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is a solid piece of hardware that would be impressive if the S8 hadn't preceded it. The S8 is more attractive in every way, and feels better in the hand thanks to its slim profile and comfortable weight. The Active makes up...

Samsung Galaxy S8 Active Review: Practically Indestructible

The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is perfect for people who truly torture their phones. It offers the same great display, camera and performance as the original S8, and it can withstand heaps of abuse. Most of us can get by with a less-expensive phone and a...

Shatterproof screen ; Same great S8 performance and display ; Top-notch camera ; Long battery life

More expensive than the S8 ; Locked to AT&T ; Bulky

The Galaxy S8 goes rugged with a water-resistant body and a screen that won't crack.
