Harman Kardon SoundSticks III

The Harman Kardon SoundSticks III speakers don't offer much more than the first SoundSticks and their SoundSticks II sequel we've already reviewed, but who are we to argue with a design that was deemed worthy of the New York Museum of Modern Art's...

The Harman Kardon SoundSticks III 2.1 speakers equip music lovers with four drivers in each satellite and a large subwoofer to pump extra bass.

There's no external jack for plugging in headphones, the bass controls are mounted on the subwoofer itself, and there's no way to turn off the translucent lighting without powering down the entire system.

The $170 SoundSticks III speakers offer light cosmetic upgrades (and unfortunately retain a few irritations) from the previous model, but if you're a fan of the iridescent design, this speaker system won't disappoint.

Best value 2.1 computer speakers

The futuristic, see-through design of the Harman Kardon SoundSticks (now part of the permanent collection of New York's Museum of Modern Art) has impressed critics since it debuted a decade ago -- and so has the clear, full sound. The latest...

Clear, detailed sound, affordable, no distortion at high volumes, museum-quality design

No headphone jack, no volume indicator on volume buttons, no remote, no way to turn off the glowing light

"I've loved these speakers since day 1 in 2000."

I first encountered these back in 2000. The original SS1's when a friend bought them in Singapore for a third of the price they were selling for back in the UK.

I regard my self as having a good ear so I rarely listen to bit rate under 320kbps & I'm blown away by the quality of sound they produce.

The power button & Sub volume combined? But not that much of an issue as the only time I touch it is to turn the thing on. Floor boards I need new ones since Dub Step.

Great Speakers!

So we have a set of these speakers currently in our climbing gym. We used to have a surround sound system, but as we found out, chalk (you use it to keep your hands dry while climbing) does not play well with open vents and subsequently destroyed our...

Good sound, fills a room, chalk resistant

Sensitive volume adjustments (though for my purposes no matter)

Disregard reviews by newbie owners--good for one date.

Ultimately, these are going to lead to Harman Industries shooting itself in the foot. The first impression, infatuation has worn out, and consumers are unlikely to keep coming back and buying these (at ever inflated prices) as frequently as some...

Pretty to look at. Make a good first impression. The looks enhance the sound, which is quite lovely if not striking (lacking a rich mid-range). The common mini-plug for the whole unit is handy

User inaccessible parts. Delicate wiring that shorts out in a few months, leaving you with one satellite speaker or worse. Delicate tiny 4-pin connector for one of the satellites. Pointless "touch" volume control (and impractical). Good for playing on

These speakers though beautiful didn't last long!

Buy these speakers at your own risk. Even though they are beautiful, doesn't mean they are going to last.

The speakers are beautiful and they sound great. Their size makes them easy to hide if you have little space on your desk

The volume buttons on the speakers are too sensitive and it's hard to control the volume. Also I had problems with the left speaker not playing more than 65% of the time which meant I had to turn the speakers on and off until they stayed on. I had that pr
