Stay away from this unit.

JVC told me that it has to do with copy protection signals sent out by the cable company. I spoke to my cable company and they confirmed that they are not flagging any regular TV shows, (standard definition broadcasts), such as the ones that I was...

It turns on and has no problems recording using the VCR section of the unit.

After 5 months of very light use, the unit broke down. Since it was out of the labor warranty it cost 100 dollars to repair. Besides the DVD section breaking down it will not record the entire length of a regular TV show broadcast. I followed the JVC...

#3 NOT a charm!

This is the 3rd JVC DVD recorder/VHS combo. The first two failed, leaving me with discs that were not finalized. Feeling I was trapped in the JVC brand, I bought the DR-MV100B. Not only did I find out that they discontinued the very handy on board...

simplistic retro 80s VCR styling, orange pong era LCD graphics.

Incompatible with other JVC Discs!!! Also, the hookup instructions are incorrect. Even allowing for the broken "Chinglish", even if you follow the picture to hook the unit up, it will not work. Wish I could be my old one repaired. This new one is JUNK,...

Above Average DVD Recorder

For a higher end machine, the unit and remote seem somewhat flimsy. The lack of automatic clock setting also struck me as odd given all of the other features.

Great digital picture, good digital tuner, tons of output options. 1080 Upconversion improves standard DVDs and even VHS tapes.

No automatic clock setting- be prepared to manually set the clock every time the power goes out. The remote is also somewhat cheap.

Excellent Combo Machine

I haven't yet tried to dub my old VHS home videos to DVD but given the unit's performance so far it should do just fine.

Good channel tuner, both digital and analog. Easy to set up. I've connected it to a cheap HD antenna and it picked up channels I hadn't seen before, though I deleted most due to less that quality signal. It does very well recording broadcast to a...

I wish the combo units would pass through the HD broadcast to the TV. That way I wouldn't have to switch the TV inputs. Minor problem. Deleting old recordings from the DVD is not the easiest but probably should be difficult.

Decent combo unit

I recently upgraded my AV setup and one of the goals was to cut down on the mess of cables connecting everything. While I don't watch tapes very much, I didn't want to eliminate having a VCR since I occasionally will tape shows. Looked at a variety of...

Piece of junk

I brought this JVC player recorder in November. 30 days to the day after I got it, it stopped working. When we try to play dvd's or vhs tapes you can hear the sound and see the counter running but there is no picture. I went on to Amazon where I...

Fair, but with some problems...

Commercials. We'll see if the JVC Vdw47Eu5 Dvd-Rw 5-Pk (4X) with CPRM solves this problem. 2) Recording quality is okay, but there is a small loss in quality. Sometimes just a tiny bit fuzzy. The average person probably won't see this loss. 3) Naming...

Great machine!

Go to [...] and get JVC DVD-RW media at a reasonable price, quick service, no bother, and that will be media you'll know will work on the machine. Also, dubbing is as simple as pie. This is a great machine. ... Read review

Poor Product and Poor Customer Service

Or manual controls. I contacted JVC customer service on 6 Dec 08 and went through their troubleshooting list with them over the phone with no luck. I took it to the closest authorized service dealer on 9 Dec 08 which happens to be 29 miles away from my...
