Samsung DVD-R145 review

A recorder that doesn't discriminate

Compatible with all disc formats ; Easy to use

Unexceptional upscaling

A decent enough DVD recorder, but one that doesn't do enough to stand out in any particular area

Samsung DVD-R135 review: Samsung DVD-R135

Samsung DVD-R135

Relatively inexpensive; HDMI upscaling to 480p, 720p, and 1080i; flexible recording length; FireWire input; DivX support; solid disc compatibility; adjustable length commercial skip.

No support for recording on DVD-RAM or dual-layer discs; HDMI performance isn't as good as that of some stand-alone players.

The Samsung DVD-R135 is a relatively inexpensive and stylish DVD recorder with HDMI upscaling, but it's not quite as good as the competition.

Samsung DVD-R145

On paper, the Samsung DVD-R145 looks like it may well be a sturdy enough DVD recorder. For starters, it features excellent disc compatibility, being able to record on all types of DVD media, including dual-layered DVD plus-R and DVD-R discs

pretty much just what I was looking for and still in price range

The speed issue is getting a tad annoying. I am used to my previous player having 2x, 4x, 16x, and 100x forwarding speeds. This one seems to max out at about 7x.

Multiple formats, HD upconvert, very price competitive for features

Have to set for 480p/720p/1080i before starting disc (cannot over-ride with TV control settings) - a minor issue but still a nuisance to stop, change the video setting, restart disc, etc. Fast fowarding is very slow. Also, cannot seem to reverse back...

Worth the Extra Money

This is a great recorder, and an ok player with the exception of being able to watch retail movies in up to 1080i definition. To avoid frustration though, make sure you have a seperate stand alone DVD player for those recordings that need to be fast...

Ok, this is not a bad investment for the money if you want a Recorder. To start with, it can play DVDs at up to 1080i if they are recorded that way. It records on all DVD formats, including Dual Layer disks and RAM disks. It has several record modes so...

As a stand alone player, the unit is lacking in some basics. To fast forward through a large chapter takes forever. Because of this problem, I play most of the recordings I make on my dedicated DVD player. If you do not have a second player, you may...

The freeze queen of recorders

I purchased this unit in October and have not had much opportunity to use it, but my daughter has complained from day one about the unit crashing during recording. Since then I have tried to tape 3 programs, only one successfully. While taping the...
