Garmin GPSMap 60CS Review

57 reviewers gave an average rating of 4 out of 5 stars at Amazon, which said the 60CS "is packed with navigational features, but Garmin knows that a great device has to go beyond a simple color display to be the cream of the crop. With that, Garmin...

Don't do it

This thing breaks and falls apart like a child's toy with minimum use. My battery cover is now held on with gaffer tape. Not exactly a good thing in the humidity of the tropics and the dust of Afghanistan/Iraq where I work.

Good GPS service

Not suitable for use outside a shopping mall

In depth review link inside. 60C is a really good GPSr to get.

See my very in-depth review with 20 pics:

Long battery life, runs on AA batteries, etc

Not perfect reception, no expandable memory, etc

GARMIN 60C S ! A++++++++++++

First off you have to see the $ as VALUE instead of PRICE with this unit! After you get over this bit of detail the Garmin GPSMap 60C S has all the rest of the details you will ever need in a portable GPS covered for you.

Bigger Memory for Maps & Waypoings / Portable Nave / Rugged / Dependable

Must see $ as VALUE not PRICE

rugged prosumer gps does it all in color, lite-weight

The GPSMAP 60CS is my first gps unit ... never used on before.

lite-weight, color screen, on target +-20 feet, day/nite modes, street map killer

virtually no included accessories (ac/dc power cord, cigarette lighter cord), accessories individually outrageously expensive

The best mid-level autorouting GPS on the market

I own several Garmin units and this one is my workhorse. The one handed operation is great for navigating in a vehicle, although I would suggest you go with the vehicle mount if you plan to use it alot. Personally, I like to put it in the cup holder...

One handed operation, slick data entry system, built-in compas for directional updates while not moving

Mapsource map data for Europe are Expensive, US maps are optional on this unit

A great toy or tool.

The quality is excellent and the unit is pretty easy to use. It comes with good documentation. It connects to the PC via USB which is a bonus, most other units use a serial cable. I tried a magellan Sprotrak Color and it didn't come close to this unit i

It would be great if there was some way to load your own custom maps in addition to the packaged maps which Garmin sells

Love this GPS

Have had 2 other units over the years and this one is a great upgrade. I went from a garmin Vista to the 60CS I use it with Mapsource software and the detail is fantastic. The color screen is easy to read in the sun or at night

Have to look around to find a deal

Wonderful GPS

This is my first GPS. I've seen the rest, now I feel I own the best. The color screen and incredible detail make this a handheld that has become a critical piece of equipment, not a novelty. I trust it and no longer worry which road/trail I am taking

Just recently it started shutting off myseteriously. After reading the prvious review here and contacting Garmin, I have placed a two small pieces of a disposable coffee cup in the battery compartment. So far so good, but I haven't done any real testing
