Refurb Magellan Roadmate 5045-LM

 

1 of 2 that I bought froze during a trip after owning for a week. Interface functions seemed to work, but its GPS functions (position, speed) were stuck. Had to connect to a windows machine to reset. Hoping the problem doesn't recur. Other hasn't been...

Cheap

User interface with Macs doesn't work (Yosemite). User interface with Windows is awful. No 'reset' on the device.

Nice GPS

 

Though I have GPS on my phone and I don't use the Magellan alot, I do use it for longer trips so as not to use up my data. Wouldn't recommend keeping it in the car when not in use because I think the summer heat may be what affected the TomTom.

I like this brand much better than the TomTom I had. The TomTom was always very difficult to get to connect to GPS, whereas this Magellan is fast! I also like the audible directions better than the other unit

My only complaint is that the software that loads on your computer when you connect for updates constantly wants to connect and keeps asking permission which causes delays on restarts

Still Good

 

Daughter uses pone, but her hand-held in-attentiveness frightens me. Phone show a nice map (sometime) but you still need to watch them closely to follow. I like true GPS gadget, which is more active in helping the driver with less time NOT on thr road.

My wife understands how to use :)

We had to replace a 4 year old Roadmate 3xxx unit - it started to fail to find GPS signal at random time. I suppose a loose or corroded wire?
