Astro Gaming's firmware update v1.1 for A50 wireless headset fixes 'audio bug,' enhances functionality

We generally enjoyed the virtual surround sound prowess of Astro Gaming's A50 wireless headset when we reviewed it back in July, but you'll recall it had one...

A50 Audio System review: Astro Gaming's latest wireless headset (mostly) pwns in 7.1

Despite a few niggles, Astro's A50 stands as one of the best gaming headsets on the market.

Superb fit and finish ; Impressive sound quality and noise isolation ; Painless setup

Non-removable battery lasts about six hours ; Needs gamepad-to-headset chat cable on Xbox

For the most part, Astro Gaming has succeeded in creating what's likely to be the next hot gaming headset. $300 is a steep price considering how much consoles go for these days, but it's still closely aligned with competing products like Turtle Beach's...

Astro A50 (2016) review: Better than ever, but the competition's still catching up

Astro's new A50 packs in a base station that doubles as a charging station so it's always ready to go, but $300 is a lot of money for a gaming headset these days.

Charging station makes it easy to stay powered up ; Crystal-clear mic capabilities ; Intuitive and powerful on-headset controls

Price—this thing is expensive ; Sound isn't what you might expect for $300 ; Base station takes up plenty of desk space

In design, in presentation, in convenience, Astro’s new A50 finally delivers a compelling reason for fans to upgrade their old A50 headset. The charging station is an excellent (albeit ostentatious) bit of work, the motion-sensing auto-on/off is a...

Astro Gaming A50 Wireless Headset + Base Station

The Astro Gaming A50 Wireless Headset + Base Station sounds, looks, and feels fantastic, but carries a high price tag to match its premium features and build.

Excellent sound quality. Very comfortable. Convenient charging cradle.

Expensive. Bundle/cradle only works with either PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. No wired option for mobile devices.

Astro Gaming's A50 is the best wireless gaming headset you can buy. It's comfortable, sounds excellent, and its charging cradle is incredibly convenient. It's expensive, but well worth the price if it's in your budget, making it our Editors' Choice. If...

Astro Gaming A50 Wireless Headset

Astro Gaming's A50 Wireless Headset is one of the more expensive gaming headsets you can buy, but with its excellent audio quality, comfortable wire-free design, and compatibility with PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, it's our Editors' Choice.

Excellent sound quality. Comfortable

Expensive. Slightly awkward control placement

Astro A50 wireless gaming headset review

Outstanding audio quality ; Simple to set up and use ; Comfortable to wear

Expensive ; Bulky, heavy design

The best gaming audio for those that can afford it

Astro A50 (2019) review: Convenience costs money

Expensive as ever, Astro's redesigned A50 nevertheless makes a case for its sticker price with a sleeker charging cradle, a return to the more reliable 2.4GHz band, and a refined audio profile.

Charging cradle is smaller and still very unique ; Switches to the more reliable 2.4GHz band (finally) ; Comfortable and durable

Middling battery life ; Poor noise isolation ; Expensive

Whether it’s enough to justify the price? I’m not sure. Astro’s made a compelling argument, and the A50’s still a favorite headset of mine. But it’s harder than ever to sell people on “Greatest” when you can get “Great” for half the price.

Companion software features many configuration options. Relatively open soundstage. Sturdy construction. Comfortable fit. Excellent mic recording quality and noise handling capability.

Base station is required to make the headphones work. High levels of audio leakage. Bulky design. Terrible isolation performance.

The Astro A50 are great for neutral sound. They have a very good frequency response and have a well-balanced sound profile. Their bass is punchy and extended, while their mid and treble ranges are well-balanced and accurate. Their companion software...

Accurate audio reproduction with EQ and presets. Decent microphone that filters out noise. Comfortable and sturdy design.

Poor noise isolation and leaky at high volumes. Aggressive auto-off timer. Bulky design not meant for outdoors.

The Astro A50 are definitely aimed towards gaming but can be used for occasional music listening thanks to their good audio reproduction. However, their overall bulky design and poor noise isolation aren't suited for the office or your daily commute....
