Sony HT-ST5000 review

Eighteen months ago, Yamaha introduced the first Dolby Atmos sound bar to the world. That remarkable contraption zapped sound effects from around and above you, with no room full of speakers required! Despite its undeniable innovation, the YSP-5600 did...

The Sony HT-ST5000 is an elegant Dolby Atmos sound bar which sounds great and includes Wi-Fi music and 4K HDR compatibility. The sound-bar-and-subwoofer combination pack more punch than many competitors are capable of. Sony's inclusion of Chromecast...

There's no DTS:X playback on the Sony sound bar. The competitive Samsung HW-K950 is $300 cheaper, and it offers dedicated surrounds and sounds more immersive as a result.

The Sony HT-ST5000 Dolby Atmos sound bar may be expensive, but it offers excellent sound quality and decent flexibility.

Sony HT-ST5000 Dolby Atmos soundbar review

An unashamedly upmarket soundbar that justifies its price tag

Beautiful build quality ; Excellent audio clarity and spatial presentation ; Generous compliment of HDMI inputs ; Hi-Res Audio file compatibility

Doesn’t convince with overhead Atmos effects ; Frighteningly expensive for a soundbar-sub combo

With audiophile drivers and refined digital amplification, this high-end Dolby Atmos soundbar is as at home with High-Res Audio as it is with a film.

Sony HT-ST5000

Don't bother with the HT-ST5000 is you're nursing a budget 40-inch telly. This is a full-width (1.18m) flagship soundbar that's unashamedly ostentatious. Headline attractions include Dolby Atmos compatibility, High-Res Audio support, Bluetooth and...

Sony HT-ST5000 Dolby Atmos Soundbar Review

The Sony HT-ST5000 soundbar boasts Dolby Atmos, 4K, HDR and Hi-Res Audio support, making it an interesting alternative to an AV receiver. However...

Great sound with TV, movies and music ; Dolby Atmos support ; Excellent hi-res audio performance ; Multiroom sound capabilities ; Powerful subwoofer ; Attractive design and well-made ; Good set of connections ; Effective remote control

Immersive audio very front heavy ; Overhead effects depend on ceiling ; No DTS support ; Quite expensive

There are a number of Dolby Atmos capable soundbars now available, so the Sony HT-ST5000 has entered a fairly competitive market, but it certainly gets your attention with an attractive design and a high level of build quality that also extends to the...

Impressive sound!

One of my main reasons for purchasing the Sony HT-ST5000 was the fact that it offers 4K support with 4 HDMI sockets. And it supports Dolby Atmos. Even with this, the quality of the sound was a very pleasant surprise - much deeper and more involving...

It's expensive, but my god is it good!

Have to say I looked at myself several times and said £1500 - really? but I took the plunge and am not in the slightest disappointed. Yes separates would probably give you more bang for the buck but I am limited on space so this was the perfect option....

Fabulously sublime

Superb sound and very easy to set up. Looks glorious. The only rather considerable set back for me is the fact that the sound bar does not indentify and display the audio input. You never have the joy of seeing 'Dolby Atmos' flash up on the panel and...
