The Acer Aspire AS8943G-6782 is the best-looking 18-inch laptop right now, equipped with the fastest parts money can buy and a touchpad that illuminates with icons.
Sexy new look. Quad-core processing. 8GB of RAM. Touchpad illuminates with icons. 18-inch widescreen is magnificent. Full 1080p HD. Very good battery life for a media-center laptop. Superb gaming scores. Blu-ray drive included. Great-sounding speakers.
Pricier than its predecessor. Touchpad is a smudge magnet.

Acer's Aspire 8943G notebook is about as far from the company's budget netbooks as you could get in a computer and yet still have a battery. A sizeable desktop replacement, with slick, minimalist design and high quality materials, the Aspire 8943G...

The Aspire features a 18.4-inch LCD screen and weighs close to 4kg, making it a fully-fledged desktop replacement
While the Aspire 8943G has a few decent features its high asking price and imbalanced overall performance restrict its appeal.

Acer Aspire 8943G (ZYA) review: A huge desktop replacement laptop that can be used as a media centre
Good performance, useful as a media centre and desktop replacement, good battery life, two hard drive bays
Ridiculously big, no expansion slot, reflective screen
The Acer Aspire 8943G is a huge, 18.4in desktop replacement notebook; people will stare and point because it's so ridiculously large. However, it has very good specifications and is useful for just about any home computing task, including gaming.

A massive 18.4-inch multimedia laptop that has 12GB RAM, a 1080p display and a Blu-ray player.

A feature-packed, high-end media centre but performance falls short of expectations
Stunning high-quality design ; Glorious high-definition screen ; Feature-packed specification ; Great usability ; Impressive, cutting-edge performance
Not as powerful as the price would suggest ; Cooling fan runs far too frequently
While Acer has yet to become a high-street name in the UK, the Taiwanese manufacturer currently sits atop the European PC market, fending off strong competition from the likes of Dell and HP.

Acer's Aspire Ethos is an impressive beast. Not least because of its substantial size - it's a hefty 18.4in model - but also because of its bold, minimalist design and superior build quality.
Around the edges of the Acer Aspire 8943G, you'll find the afore-mentioned Blu-ray drive, as well as four USB 3.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI, VGA, FireWire, eSATA/USB 2.0, an SD card slot and microphone and speaker audio connections. The unit also...

There's a lot to the Aspire 8943G; a lot to pay and a lot to like.
Great performance. Huge screen. Media scroll button on trackpad. Integrated Blu-ray and TV tuner. Massive home entertainment opportunities.
Weighs as much as a small hippo. Hinge dropped off during unpacking.
