Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display review (mid 2012)

Product categories come and go, grow and wither, revolutionize the world and then slowly fade into a state of cold, quiet, everlasting obsolescence. It

Beautiful Retina display ; Thinner and lighter than previous Pros ; World-class performance ; Improved battery life

Expensive ; MagSafe 2 connector requires an adapter

The MacBook Pro with Retina display is a top-shelf laptop with a world-class display. It isn't cheap, but it's worth it.

Apple's 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display is amazing, and amazingly expensive (review)

Thin, fast, and sporting a high-resolution screen, the new MacBook Pro with Retina Display pairs high-end computing power with a superstylish MacBook Air-inspired design.

The unprecedented high-resolution screen on the new ; makes images -- even simple text -- look beautifully clear. Despite a redesigned, lightweight body, the powerful components, including an Nvidia GPU, compare well to recent high-end desktop...

With a $2,199 entry-level price tag, the MacBook Pro with Retina Display costs more than the typical American mortgage. The lack of onboard Ethernet jack, FireWire, or an optical drive can be inconvenient at times. Despite being thinner and lighter,...

The newly redesigned MacBook Pro with Retina Display combines an amazing screen with just enough of the MacBook Air design to feel like a new animal, and to take its place as the best of the current MacBook breed.

Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (Mid 2012)

The Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (Mid 2012) is still one of the best laptops around, with solid performance and a superb user experience.

Quad-core Ivy Bridge processor. Switchable Nvidia graphics technology. Long battery life. OS X Mountain Lion improves on an already great user experience.

Multimedia performance lags. No 1080p display.

Review: Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display

Apple's latest top-of-the-line laptop is an expensive, factory-sealed machine with a stunning display -- a PC that's the first of its breed.

Extremely sharp 2880×1800 resolution display is pure eye candy. Excellent springy keyboard and trackpad. Even the cheapest model, with 8GB of flash memory and an SSD, is super speedy. Never thought I’d be comfortable holding a 15-inch notebook in one hand

Price is hard to swallow — upgrades, add-ons and accessories can bump the cost up nearly ,000 more. Sealed unibody design is impossible to upgrade yourself once you’ve purchased the device — but come now, you knew that going in

MacBook Pro with Retina display review (15-inch)

Though Apple quietly discontinued the 17-inch MacBook Pro this week, hardly a tear was shed. In fact, the company went out of its way to replace the ultra-premium tier with something even more covetous — namely, a 15-inch MacBook Pro with such a...

Best display ever for a laptop ; Much thinner and lighter than previous Pros ; Powerful new Ivy Bridge chipset ; USB 3.0 and HDMI out

Screen still prone to glare ; Apps and website not yet optimized for Retina display ; Chassis gets notably hot in processor-intensive situations

Good love is on the way

Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (Retina Display)

With a higher-resolution display, thin chassis, and up-to-date components, the Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch with Retina Display is the new king of high-end desktop replacement laptops.

Brilliant Retina display. Thin profile. Good port selection. Discrete graphics. Speedy storage. Has 8GB of memory. Ready for Mac OS X Mountain Lion

Ethernet use requires adapter. Not all apps currently work well with Retina display

Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (Late 2011)

The Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (late 2011) gets new hardware and software, including a quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, AMD Radeon GPU, and OS X Lion, while keeping everything that works so well, like the thin, stylish unibody design.

Updated quad-core Core i7 processor. Powerful AMD GPU with more dedicated memory. OS X Lion is superb. Improved battery life.

Competitors offer lower prices and larger feature sets.

Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (SD Slot)

The Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch adds new features and improved battery life over the previous version, while lowering its base price to $1,699.

Lower starting price. Superior design engineering. Bigger battery and over 5 hours of battery life on tests. Earns our GreenTech Approved seal. Illuminated keyboard. Versatile touchpad.

Deep-sixes the ExpressCard slot. Base configuration uses integrated graphics only.

Adding an SD slot to the 13-inch MacBook Pro is a little more compelling, since the 13-inch model lacked any sort of expansion slot. With the MacBook Pro 15-inch, though, deep-sixing a versatile slot like the ExpressCard slot might cause some...
