Alienware 17 R3 Notebook Review

Marathon runner. There are many powerful gaming notebooks, but only a few provide long battery runtimes. The third revision of the Alienware 17 turns out to be surprisingly enduring.

sturdy and high-quality chassis, external graphics card via Amplifier, excellent battery runtimes, many illumination elements, USB 3.1 with Thunderbolt 3, bright IPS display, excellent performance, good input devices, decent sound, handy tools, nice...

some components are tricky to access, occasional CPU & GPU throttling in extreme scenarios, battery drains under maximum load (mains), only two memory slots, chassis slips easily, high weight

You will hardly find such a stylish and diversely illuminated chassis in the notebook segment. Thanks to USB 3.1, NVMe-SSD, Skylake processor, DDR4-RAM and GeForce GTX 980M, the other components are high-end as well. The package is rounded off by great...

Dell Alienware 17 R3 review – high-performance gaming laptop

If you're after a powerful gaming laptop with a 17-inch screen, the Alienware 17 R3 is one of the better picks out there. It's fast, runs quiet and not very hot, it bundles an amazing screen, a very good keyboard and even a large battery. It's not...

the screen is about as good as they get; good build quality; the keyboard is excellent; solid performance; runs quiet; good sound quality and volume

Expensive; Trackpad is a little small and not that impressive; Some may find it too heavy

Alienware 17 (2015) review

Getting the gaming laptop-desktop hybrid right

Full-fledged gaming machine ; Flexible desktop mode ; Excellent large screen

Still quite expensive ; Slightly bottlenecked Amplifier performance

Scores in depth In the age of shrinking laptops, it's nevertheless unbelievable that hulking 17-inch gaming laptops still exist. Even gaming laptops are not immune to the changing tides of the mobile computing world, the Origin EVO15-S and Aorus X7 Pro...

Good...

If I can't get the bad pool header thing completely fixed i wouldn't recommend it.

Best PC i've ever had, aside from the blue screen crashes.

Not sure if its a problem with the laptop, or windows 10, but even fresh out of the box, I keep getting "Bad_Pool_Header" blue screens of death.

2nd review after a while of owning

The killer wifi started losing functions. I checked on the killer site to find I was running an outdated version. Re downloaded Killer Suite from killer site. All options now available and verified working properly. Check for updates frequently if you...

This laptop is true to Alienware craftsmanship. After the few months of owning and using it is still going strong. Handles everything maxed. Stays cool. The features are still awesome. Good job Alienware!

None.

Please do not buy this laptop. You have been warned.

I always wanted an Alienware Laptop. My dreams have been crushed. Maybe Dell will wake up and do something about it after reading how they have failed in the quality department.

If you have the bucks for this laptop buy the predator series from Acer. You will not be disappointed. I purchased both models and the craftsmanship on the predator is outstanding.

Windows 10 Blue screen of death several times. Finally after three days laptop would not power on and beeped 7 times indicating the CPU was fried.

love it

Overall, its an Alienware, and you get what you pay for. This machine is SO worth the money if you're looking to switch from a desktop to laptop. Powerful, silent and lightning fast. Just the way every computer should be built. Quality is king, and...

-easy to set up and use -fast and can easily multi-task from start up. -large display is like a hooking up to an HDMI t.v. and graphics card powers through most anything spectacularly -long charger cord that allows you to easily move the laptop around...

-a bit bulky, large and heavy. makes for very few placement or storage options, though a small con at most. -having a bit of an issue with the wireless card, though it could just be my interwebs. -the large surge protector can SOMETIMES be a hassle,...

A Full month into using it, and happy so far

Im a little disappointed that I bought it at an already discounted price, and a month later I come back to find it at $1,869 (original $2,099) When I bought it, it was discounted at $2,099 (original price $2,500 or so) It's only been a month's...

-Its thinner than typical beefed up gaming laptops -Doesn't run as hot as I expected -Incredible display quality, sharpness, and color. Specially good for color and photo editors -The chroma keyboard is super zen to work with -Battery life is super...

-The battery is NOT removable and it's especially hard to get to. Terrible design if the battery needs replacement. -The casing is plastic and feels specially cheap. I would've imagined a better casing to protect it better from denting. It had a tiny...
