Review Dell Precision M4800 Notebook

Setting standards. Dell's former Precision M4700 maintained its top position in our workstation ranking for a year. Now its successor is available and faces extremely high expectations. We exhaustively tested whether it really can live up to them. ...

Weight ; Battery runtime ; Configuration options for single orders / private customers ; Price

That Dell launched such a decent casing with its Precision 4600 that it still serves as the basis for a very good workstation today

Dell Precision M4800

The Dell Precision M4800 workstation provides powerful performance and a sharp QHD+ screen in a secure and durable design.

Powerful performance and graphics; Colorful QHD+ display; Good audio quality; Strong security options; Large port selection

Below-average battery life; Small touchpad

In addition to its durable yet handsome chassis, the Dell Precision M4800 is a productivity beast. This workstation offers a powerful Intel Core i7 processor and Nvidia Quadro GPU, which can easily handle graphics-intensive tasks like video editing. We...

A portable workstation that packs a punch

Powerful CPU performance ; Excellent GPU performance ; 32GB of memory available ; Huge array of expansion ports

TN screen has poor colour reproduction ; Hybrid hard disks aren't great ; Like most workstations, it's big, heavy and ugly

The Dell Precision M4800 is hardly going to appeal to students looking for a laptop to take to college, but design professionals who need a portable machine with real 3D grunt will be pleasantly surprised by how capable it is. It's not a complete...

Dell Precision M4800 Mobile Workstation review

However not only is the list price much more expensive than its Mac rival, this is also a far heavier beast; our test model with slot-loading DVD±RW drive came in at weighty 3.28 kg.

The spectacular screen on the Dell Precision M4800 will make maximum impact in the high-end video and CAD space. That screen comes at a price however – this less than portable workstation represents a substantial investment. And Windows and many...

Stupendous power and a top-end display.

Dell Precision M4800

High-DPI displays are the flavour of the moment, but the Dell Precision M4800 marks the first time we've seen such a screen on a business-class machine. That isn't this monster of a workstation laptop's only talent though. Not only is its 15.6in panel...

Stupendous power for a laptop and an excellent display, but the price is very high

M4x00 Not the best build

The build quality was bad enough that I could see the machine becoming unusable pretty quickly if you were unlucky. The quality of the machine is not good enough for me to consider buying a new Dell when the time comes. I may try the new Razer Blade Pro.

These machines are good value for money on the compute side. I use this as a programmers workstation and it does very well at this task ; SSD appears to be of good quality and has retained low latencies even after some time of use ; Graphics are good...

The display to one of my recent Samsung monitors does not return after resuming from power saving sleep of the machine ; The USB ports have started physically falling apart and two are no longer usable ; It is very heavy
