European Professional Lens 2011-2012 - Canon EF 70-300mm F4-5.6L IS USM

The Canon EF 70-300mm F4-5.6L IS USM is an amazing telephoto zoom lens that combines high image quality with an extremely durable construction and a surprisingly compact design. It sets a new standard for this popular zoom range with its professional...

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM

A well-built, pro-spec lens boasting excellent performance

Ultra-reliable AF and IS systems

Poorer sharpness past f/16

This is a really lovely lens that has been a positive pleasure to test. It is fairly expensive but this is a professional zoom and is priced accordingly. As such it cannot be considered to be a bargain but neither is it unreasonably positioned within...

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM

Purchased 70-300L for use on my 7D for daylight field sports, and most importantly, to carry while when traveling. Processed (in Lightroom & NIK Suite) images from the 7D + 70-300L compare very favorably with those from my 5D MkII + 70-200L MkII. For...

Compact, Light weight, Fast auto focus (with both full and panning modes), Full time manual focus, Very sharp images, Responds well to micro focus adjustment

Cost, but then again it has 'L' build quality and performance; Lens collar is both expensive and (currently) unavailable

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM review by vittorio fracassi

like all good zooms it has a wide field of application both on FF and APS-C cameras. My personal experience disagrees with the results of the resolution results in this Review, probably there are differences in various samples as it often occurs in...

excellent construction and sealing, well balanced, fits well in bags, sharp at all focals (more from 70 to 200mm), very fast AF and broad shouldered IS, very good general image quality

impossible to add extenders, no tripod ring in kit, expensive

An excellent lens.

Very good image quality. Sharp at all focal lengths

Zoom ring reversed from standard Canon. Bokeh is not as nice as some other lenses

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM review by pj1974

What a L lens! It is super sharp, and has also great contrast at all focal lengths and aperture settings from wide open to f13 on my 7D. Then starts to soften due to defraction. I love the 35mm equivalent of 480mm, and can crop heavily still giving...

Very sharp wide open corner to corner on APS-C . Useful range. Confident 4-stop IS. Fast, accurate AF. Bombproof build

No tripod collar included. Bit expensive, but you pay for what you get

Canon EF 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 L IS USM

It's just a joy to use, and very sharp. It's also a significant step up from the Tamron 70-300 VC, you'll have no worries shooting wide open at 300mm with this one! Perfect on APS-C. Also, do not underestimate how important portability is, it's very...

Sharp throughout zoom range at f5.6, colour and contrast fantastic. Auto focus is amazingly fast, IS is superb. Very compact, not overly heavy. Metal filter threads. Zoom lock means hood can be stored in reverse orientation and still removed without...

None, well, maybe price. The relatively slow aperture and extension on zooming are not cons, in lens terms they are necessary design compromises to make it the size, weight and focal length range it is

Canon EF 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 L IS USM

Very versatile telezoom, if you want to travel, take a 24-105L F4.0 and this lens. Maybe with a small fast prime. I bought this lens secondhand, new the price is a little steep.

Very nice size, superb build quality, good IS. IQ good

Somewhat slow, but that is the concept of the lens

Canon EF 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 L IS USM

Great option for a APS-C camera. On full frame not so good.

great build quality, Image quality at 300mm is very good, best IS I ever found in a lens

Strong vignetting on full frame, sometimes slow auto focus, really heavy weight, bad corners at 70mm on full frame
