Technisat HDFV review

Although Freeview HD+ PVRs are starting to appear on dealers' shelves, some might want to dip their toe into these terrestrial high-definition waters with a basic receiver. This elegant and nicely-built HDFV is one such product. However, by plugging a...

Performance; responsive user interface; PVR upgrade path

Recording limitations; multimedia playback natively-supports few formats; no iPlayer support yet; only one USB port Performance: 5/5

TechniSat HDFV

A tiny, but very significant contribution to the exploding Freeview HD market comes from TechniSat in the form of its diminutive HDFV. It's highly unusual since whether it's a simple receiver or a recorder is largely down to how you use it. With a...

Freeview HD tuner, recording options, easy interface

Basic file compatibility, needs additional USB port

With a posher look than most Freeview HD receivers, TechniSat’s HDFV packs just enough punch to push it above the competition - and at enticing pricing.

TechniSat HDFV review

Like the Humax HD-FOX T2, the is a Freeview television set-top box distingished by its high-definition receiver. So alongside the many standard TV channels easily available around the UK, three station can be enjoyed as free-to-air HD channels in...

There’s plenty of potential in this ingenious TechniSat HDFV Freeview HD set-top box, but its final execution is marred somewhat somewhat by a clumsy interface. We feel it’s been deprived of a fantastic facility to record broadcast TV in native MPEG...

Technisat HDFV review

Technisat's HDFV Freeview HD set top box has a slim metal casing with a minimalist, reflective front fascia. The only interruption to the sleek design is the silver control ring on the left hand side, which has four directional buttons used for...

Technisat’s HDFV has some nice features including basic PVR capabilities, but poor media playback support lets it down while i-CANN’s Easy HD 2851T is cheaper and has a built-in BBC iPlayer client.

Recording to USB stick. Start to watch a programme from beginning whilst it is recording (chase recording). Works very well with a small indoor aerial!

Can't read the recorded files on my PC. No option for series record (although there is an option to record the same time slot)

Technisat HDFV

Very capable as it can record Freeview HD to an external hard drive etc and has both analogue and digital sound outputs.

Some menus a bit confusing and epg could be better styled. Takes a long time to switch itself off. So very good but not perfect.

Straightforward to set up. Only the SD output from the SCART socket has been used so far, but it has performed flawlessly. Out of curiosity I tried out the LAN connection and it easily connected to a networked computer, enabling a video stored on its...

Brilliant for the price, and very easy to use.

Have to purchase/use an external storage to record, but its only cheap from a supermarket or cheaper online!

Technisat HDFV

Excellent image quality. Easy to set up

The storage medium has to be formatted as FAT32. I found it impossible to format my external disc to this file system. However my memor stick worked fine as it was already preformatted to this filesystem. it is just quite small capacity.
