Apple iPod Classic review: The iPod that holds it all

The iPod Classic is Apple's iconic hard-drive-based MP3 player, with design roots that date back to 2001's original iPod model . If you can resist the fashion appeal and gee-whiz features of Apple's slimmer iPods , such as the iPod Nano and iPod Touch...

The Apple iPod Classic offers a solid, understated design with an easy-to-use interface and unbelievably generous capacity.

EQ control is limited; the plastic screen is susceptible to scratching; and the only way to move media on and off the device is through iTunes.

The iPod Classic refines the formula that put the iPod on the map. None can match its combination of storage capacity, battery life, and intuitive user interface.

Apple iPod Classic second generation review:

Editors' note, August 18, 2009: Rumors strongly suggest that a new line of iPods will be unveiled early in September of this year. For those considering the purchase of an iPod, we recommend holding off until these new models become available. Check...

The second-generation iPod Classic adds a new Genius playlist feature to its time-tested combination of music, video, podcast, audiobook, and photo playback.

EQ control is limited; some older iPod video accessories may not be compatible; the plastic screen is susceptible to scratching; users are required to use the latest version of iTunes, which may not work on some older computer systems.

The iPod Classic refines the formula that put the iPod on the map. Few can match its combination of storage capacity, battery life, and intuitive user interface.

Apple Second-generation iPod classic (Late 2008, 120GB)

Lots of storage capacity ; Impressive battery performance ; Browse album and artist features ; Charges with FireWire connection ; Genius playlist support ; Slightly brighter display

Those with large media libraries may mourn the loss of the 160GB classic ; Doesn't include such cool new iPod nano features as accelerometer or spoken menus

Apple iPod Classic 80GB MP3 Player Review - Intro

The iPod Classic has the face that launched the MP3 Player industry. Years later and it has a bit of a different look, but still retains its old charm. This newest iteration comes in 80GB and 120GB models, and we've reviewed the 80GB in this very...

Looks good, seems pretty durable, supports a lot of files ; Good physical controls, lots of memory.; Simple, comprehensive, familiar and easy to use ; Fast, easy playlists on the fly, good equalizer options ; Great podcast support.; Great overall audio...

The aesthetic is nothing new, and this thing is huge. ; Either our review unit was broken or the battery life is abysmal. Since we bought the unit off a store shelf, neither scenario is good. ; Some other media players have a few more advanced features...

Conclusion The iPod Classic is almost nostalgia-enducing at this point. In a world with the iPhone and iPod Touch, the simple, list-based interface seems quaint by comparison. If you can find an 80GB version for around $170, it's not a bad deal for...

Gadgets That Keep Going and Going and Going

Meet the new iPod. It looks familiar, huh- That's because Apple's iPod classic is essentially a replacement for the iPod video, or fifth-generation iPod. The main improvement here is storage space-what was once a 30GB or 80GB player now comes with 80GB...

Tons of storage. Improved interface. "Classic" iPod controls. Easy navigation.

Cover Flow is a bit slow. Bundled earbuds aren't great.

As its name suggests, not much has changed on the iPod classic-it looks a little different on the outside, and there's a useful, but not radical, interface update. The big news is the massive capacity upgrade.

Apple iPod Classic

The name suggests more of the same but with more space and better value. Hard disk lag issues, video out controversy and just okay sound stop it from being a true classic though.

Huge storage (who really has 40,000 songs?), Good value, Anodised aluminium front feels like quality, Video and photos are bright and clear, Interface looks even slicker than ever ...

... but marred by hard disk lag issues, Sound quality still, at best, mediocre, Cover Flow a case of form over function, New accessories required for video out

Apple iPod Classic 80GB, black

Editor's note: This review has been updated to include battery life data resulting from CNET Labs' testing.

The iPod Classic is just like the fifth-generation iPod with video, only slimmer, tougher, and injected with a more visually rich graphical user interface.

Video output now requires a proprietary cable; audio quality has not improved; some older iPod video accessories may not be compatible; users are required to use the latest version of iTunes, which may not work on some older computer systems.

The iPod Classic is a refinement of the formula that put the iPod on the map. Few can match its combination of storage capacity, battery life, and advanced user interface.

Review Of The Apple iPod Classic

The 3rd generation ipod fits a massive 160GB hard disk. The screen is molded out of plastic, making it the only iPod that hasn't used the scratch-resistant glass screen yet. It also is the only one to use the split screen menu, with  the menu function...

A sleek, elegant and simple design; user-friendly interface; and nice podcast support; superb video-playback and brilliant battery-life

The Equalizer has many settings but most are indistinguishable; older video accessories may not be compatible; older computers may not support the latest itunes version

Apple is doing what it does best, and the 160GB classic is nothing short of it. It packs in a good feature list and is really worth your money.

Apple iPod Classic

The word ‘classic' may make one think of sports cars, the classical musician Mozart and Ancient Greek mythology. But what happens when the word ‘classic' is associated with a gadget that became a world-wide phenomenon only a few years ago?

A classic tribute to what has become a tech gadget of classic proportions.

Product Specifications

Now that you can buy movies from the iTunes Store and sync them to your iPod, the whole world is your theater. With a 30GB or 80GB iPod in hand, those movies fit comfortably next to TV shows, new iPod games, podcasts, audiobooks, photo albums, and, of course, an entire library of music - up to 20,000 songs, in fact. How much can your pocket hold? That's up to you and your iPod. It holds up to 20,000 songs, up to 25,000 photos, and up to 100 hours of video - or any combination of each. So you can browse movies on the iTunes Store, download the ones you want (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, perhaps?), and then sync it to your iPod. Same goes for TV episodes, new iPod games, 99
