8550DT Not a good option for us.

If you do purchase this product it will more than pay you to pick up extended warranty.

Not a toner based system but solid "wax" eliminates 99% of the mess . The per page cost for the "toner stick" is very good, and was an initial reason for us purchasing the printer. It's photo printing is the best that can be found IMHO

In the 3 years we have had the printer the only original part left is the case itself. EVERYTHING else has had to be replaced due to failure after failure

solid ink, not laser

This is not laser, it is solid ink.

Solid ink does not bond to the paper as strongly as laser.

The 850, 8500, 8550, 8560 are not laser. They are solid ink. Laser spreads thermal plastic powder on the paper, then melts it in with a fuser. Solid ink has no fuser, just a maintenance kit that cleans off the roller. Solid ink is a high temperature...

This is not laser, it is solid ink. Very high quality print, very low cost, virtually no maintenance, absolutely no mess. Best print engine made for PS. Extraordinary printer series. Very reliable. The best set of network features you can ask for

Solid ink does not bond to the paper as strongly as laser. 14 pt margin, not edge-to-edge (14 pt is better than most consumer printers though)
