Denon AVR-X4000 AirPlay AV Receiver Review

The Denon AVR-X4000 AV Receiver is more than worthy successor to the AVR-3313CI. We review a lot of receivers, but rarely come across one we like this much. Read on to see why we're such fans.

Listen to network audio and HDMI video simultaneously ; HDMI audio for Zone 2 (And Zone 3 if All Zone Stereo is Used) ; Audyssey MulEQ XT32 & SubEQ HT ; Easy to setup and configure

Denon AVR-X4000 review

Denon has high hopes for its 2013 X-series of AV receivers, with the new range boasting an unapologetically modernistic feature set and some welcome refinements, including a reworked user interface, clearer front panel display and hand-holding Setup...

Engaging multichannel delivery; generous connectivity; excellent network streaming and content support; versatile multiroom options

At times, almost too refined; no Bluetooth; ugly remote; not quite as intuitive as Denon would have us believe; only seven channels of amplification

Denon AVR-X4000

Hands-on: A high-end AV receiver with 9.2 processing and oodles of features

The Denon AVR-X4000 sits just below the top-end AVR-X4520, which offers similar core features but has a much more powerful amplifier core using a monoblock design. As such, though, it’s just over half the price, making it much more accessible for most...

Denon AVR-X4000

A decent amplifier for the price, but needs more subtlety, power and dynamics to truly compete with class leaders

Clear, detailed sound ; Crisp, clean edges ; Fast, agile performance ; Good connectivity and streaming features ; Price

Can sound a bit hard-edged ; Bass could be a little more authoritative ; Treble lacks a little refinement

There’s plenty to sing about with this Denon AV receiver, but we’d like to have heard more power and punch alongside crystal clear edges.

Denon AVR-X4000 AV Receiver Review

Denon's latest range of budget to mid-price AV receivers promise easier setup, better performance and competitive pricing. Steve Withers finds out if...

Detailed and lively sound ; Plenty of bass ; Easy to setup ; Attractive design ; Good connectivity ; Price

Can sound a bit clinical ; Bass could be better integrated

Denon's goal has been to take the intimidation factor out of AV receivers and with the AVR-X4000 they are certainly on the right track. It might not be able to completely shake the classic receiver look but the lack of controls on the front makes for...
