Onkyo TX-SR600

Incredibly enough, Onkyo somehow continues to drop prices and still make great-sounding receivers.

Relatively inexpensive; has the latest 6.1 Dolby EX and DTS ES surround-decoding chips; A/B speaker switching.

Spring-clip connectors for the B speakers.

"Solid Home Theater Receiver"

Solid home theater receiver. I think it is underrated at 80 watts. The WRATH ampflier just does a good job. My living room is about 30' x 25' and I'm running 2 Polk Audio RTi38 for my front mains, 3 Polk Audio RTi28 for rear left, center and right,...

Easy to setup and use. Very reliable with big sound. Component switching.

Because it is an older model, no HDMI input/switching. Other than that, no complainants.

"Fantastic Deal ... call it a steal"

I bought this reciever for $239 as did some others as "OPEN MERCHANDISE" from Circuit City. Great sound , features , connectivity and more. Nice looking unit , good remote and more. For $239 .... there's nothing better anywhere.

Lacking a couple of more advanced features , but for my purposes as a Living room unit mini theatre set up not much to complain about.

"Audio Perfection"

I bought this reciever for $239 at circuit city, it was the floor model and was for sale open box right after the 601 came out, so I snatched it up real quick. I already knew it was a great sounding reciever. 80 watts high current X 6, with DTS, Dolby dig

Composite to S video conversion would have been perfect but is only available on the 601, and maybe 1 more optical in would be nice, other than that for what I paid the unit is flawless

Bass management with cross over setting down to 80 Hz, clean & not too bright sound, learning remote control - I've been listening to this receiver for 5 months and am very happy with the performance..

"manual disjointed and unclear"

Great sound! more than enough power.Purchasers who complain about lack of power should read the manual re imput settings. Love that Dolby Pro II!

Manual could be clearer, have to jump back and forth and DSP settings not consistant with other manufacturers usage. Very flimsy cabinet top.Spring clips for B speakers!!!!

"Great receiver, but beware"

I've tried 3 HT-S650 and 2 TX-SR500 at Circuit City (LFE bug) before the manager suggested I get the TX-SR600. Now, I've discovered that my TX-SR600 is inflicted with the DD-EX Out-of-Phase bug. Essentially, the receiver does not properly decode the...

Product Specifications

The TX-SR600 6-channel A/V receiver adds rear-center surround capability with a sixth amplifier channel, and Dolby Digital EX and DTS-ES decoding. The unit also features sophisticated HDTV capable 50 MHz component video switching, improved digital processing for the left and right speaker channels, an on-screen display, and improved bass management for digital signals. Many of the latest DVD releases contain Dolby Digital EX and DTS-ES soundtracks, which include a center surround channel for 6.1 surround sound. The TX-SR600 is compatible with these new formats, as well as Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 encoded titles. The receiver also includes Dolby Pro Logic II processing, which can derive a satisfying multichannel experience from two-channel sources. Because of the importance of the left and right channels in stereo and multichannel operation, these channels now feature 192kHz/24-bit DACs for greater resolution. The TX-SR600 has 50 MHz component video switching, which allows the high definition video signal to use the receiver's source switching without degrading video quality. This receiver simplifies home theater connections and with its wide array of audio and video inputs and outputs, it is designed to function as the centerpiece for any home theater system. There is even an optical digital output for the addition of an outboard processor or digital-ready recorder. For convenient connection of portable devices, the front panel has composite and S-video inputs, and an optical digital input jack. The Onkyo TX-SR600's six internal power amplifiers feature high-current, low-impedance discrete output devices, and the receiver is capable of a continuous power output of 110 watts per channel into a 6 ohm load. Onkyo's WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) gives the power stage a linear frequency response from 10 Hz to 100 kHz to handle the most demanding audio sources such as SACD and DVD-Audio. The on-screen display and dot-matrix fluorescent front panel display make setup and operation of the receiver easy and fast. The sophisticated digital processing circuitry also includes 13 distinct DSP modes, as well as Onkyo's CinemaFILTER, which corrects for the 'brightness' that soundtracks designed for large theaters often display when played in the home. The unit's preprogrammed/learning remote control makes system programming and integration simple and convenient.
