Pioneer VSX-1020K 7.1 A/V Receiver

The marketplace for receivers is undergoing a rather interesting transformation. In the early days, most of the pieces that went into a receiver were a result of in-house development. This was also a time when the audio components dominated. These days...

On the whole, Pioneer delivers a feature filled and very usable product. As always, there are a few areas that could use improvement, but the ease of use and accessibility of the entire feature set is commendable. After all is said and done, however,...

Pioneer VSX-1020-K

Editors' note: As of April 2011, this product has been replaced by the Pioneer VSX-1021-K , which offers additional iOS compatibility options, including AirPlay support.

7.1 channel AV receiver; excellent sound quality; six HDMI inputs; 3D compatible; graphical user interface; analog video upconversion; can connect an iPod/iPhone directly via USB; Ethernet port; second zone functionality.

One-year warranty (most competitors offer two or more); no audio return channel support; doesn't support standby pass-through; no minijack input.

Six HDMI inputs, easy iPod connectivity, and sweet sound quality make the Pioneer VSX-1020-K an excellent midrange AV receiver, although it's missing some minor HDMI features.

Pioneer VSX-1020-K Receiver Preview

The new Pioneer VSX-1020-K has all the functionality of the $399 VSX-920-K with the addition of a GUI, on-screen album art, a powered Zone 2, improved MCACC, Internet radio, and iPhone control.

We (and we're fairly sure Pioneer as well) wish the VSX-1020-K could have come in at the $499 price point. While it is only $50, $549 sounds like a lot more. But you are getting a lot of additional functionality at this price point. You have all the...

Pioneer VSX-1020-K Receiver First Look

If you've been in this business as long as we have, you start to notice trends. Things go in and out of style. For a while, everyone will build speakers with metal dome tweeters and then suddenly no one will. It'll be ICE Power this and Class D that...

Pioneer VSX-1020-K 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver - Review

The VSX-1020-K offers convenient and abundant features. Two of my favorites are the front mounted HDMI and USB ports. However, on the analog side, the lack of 5.1/7.1 channel analog inputs and outputs is disappointing.

Pioneer VSX-1020-K Home Theater Receiver Review

Six 3D-capable HDMI 1.4a inputs, iControl AV iPhone app makes "remote" control easier, Integrated internet radio is a nice touch. No Pandora, but still., Unmolested 480i component video pass-thru to HDMI output, Six 3D-capable HDMI 1.4a inputs,...

Limited Crossover Frequency options, Remote's buttons are too small, too many and Volume should be bigger, Chintzy front panel covering iPod interface, Mediocre video processing

More so than any receiver I've tested thus far, Pioneer's VSX-1020-K does so much more than merely provide signal switching and amplification. With a whopping six 3D-capable HDMI inputs, a handy iPhone app for improved "remote" control, integrated...

Pioneer VSX-1020-K

In short, this AV receiver is one of the best we reviewed. The Pioneer VSX-1020-K has high performance, plenty of HDMI and other ports, a nice coverage of commonly used sound enhancing technology, as well as a good feature set. Does it come at extra...

The VSX-1020-K has a very low total harmonic distortion level

The remote could use some work. You may find the best option is to replace it

In the world of beginner 7.1 AV receivers, this is about the best deal out there.

Pioneer VSX-1020

The Pioneer VSX-1020 is one of the most feature-rich receivers for the price, with remote iPhone volume control and on-screen cover art.

The VSX-920 and VSX-1020 will be available in July for AU$1099 and AU$1299 respectively. If your budget doesn't stretch this far then Pioneer also makes the VSX-520 (AU$499) and VSX-820 (AU$699), but without some of the A/V features like app control....

"JUNK! Do not buy Pioneer"

DO NOT BUY PIONEER RECEIVERS. While I was surfing the WEB for answers I found hundreds of other people with the same problem as me an mostof them are a varity of other Pioneer models, EVEN THE ELITES.

Lots of HDMI inputs, Iphone control

After one year, Not even one month after warranty ran out, the receiver started power cycling. Took it to a Pioneer repair shop and they could not find any thing wrong.

I enjoyed the product while it worked, and never thought I would be one of the One Star reviewers that I read about here before making my purchase! There are still more 4-5 Star Reviews, but it will be interesting to see if that changes as people reach...

Great Sound, loved it while it worked.

Subwoofer output failed 13 months after the purchse and HDMI Output failed 18 months after purchase.
