Best machine in its price range

I paid $180 for it here in israel (220v model) at a ‘netaction‘ auction.

Extracts good espresso, solid portafilter with spring catch for the filter basket. 58mm diameter filter matches popular ‘pro‘ grade tampers ; Relatively quick heatup (~6min), Milk steaming and frothing

Cpu warmer plate that doesn‘t really deserve its name. Looks, Somewhat flexible body

After ten years still going strong!!

I received this as a wedding gift in summer of 1999. Since then have averaged 2.5 uses per day. Thats over 10,000 "pulls". When I think it is ready for the recycle I am able to repair it for only a few dollars and it goes for another 3 years. The...

I cant break this thing ; Consistently good espresso once you get used to it

Plastic housing warps ; slow to reheat for multiple shots ; Somewhat noisy rattle from the steam relief ball valve

Good basic machine for serious espresso. Get a good grinder or a reliable source for ground.

This is my first serious machine and in general I‘m pleased with it. Once I got the right grind I managed to make what I consider very good espresso-better than many "espresso bars". But the right grind needs a very good home grinder-or you have to...

Makes good espresso with a good crema if you use good coffee and get the proper grind. Easy to use and seems to be well made

Frothing- Wand is too short which makes frothing awkward. Steam capacity is too small, a second use means stopping and letting the steam cycle run again. Better for users who aren't strongly oriented towards cappuccinos and lattes

This machine works great for about a year then dies. Trust me I have had two of them.

This machine works great for about a year then dies. Trust me I have had two of them. I have had two of these machines. Both stopped pumping after about a year. The boiler also stopped working in the 1st one after about a year. Probably why they...

Works well for a while

I have had two of these machines. Both stopped pumping after about a year. The boiler also stopped working in the 1st one after about a year. Probably why they stopped making this machine

Great Bargain -- so good they stopped making it!

This is my first espresso machine so I may not be on the best position to comment. But after seeing the prices on other machines -- even other Gaggias -- I know that this one was a real bargain. In fact I bought 3 of them to give as gifts. Everyone...

This is a terrific coffee maker and a major bargain

After a few years it packed it in and now I find that it is no longer available (according to Whole Latte Love). They recommend the DeLuxe which they admit is identical for an addition $100 to make it $300. Anybody know where I can get one at the...

An excellent durable first machine but I'm ready to graduate to something prettier with a few more bells and whistles.

Now when I started using this machine there wasn't a lot of information on the subject of making espresso so it took me a while to figure out the ways from various coffee barristas particularly in the Kent State University area in Ohio and also the men...

Once learned, it can produce shots (golden shots with a nice thick crema) that will rival most coffee shops. Yes starbucks espresso ; An excellent beginner machine for it's price ; My mom bought me this machine my freshmen year in college(1997). The...

Black housing on my unit has faded slightly and has a couple of scratches in it giving it a cheaper look ; Drip tray is plastic and over time it gets stained easily even after cleaning daily ; Resevoir is a pain to clean out, refill, typically after a...

Great for the money, despite aesthetic flaws

This is, in my opinion, the best machine for the money. What you suffer to cut costs (cheap plastic casing) you make up for more than double by the great espresso, heat up times, high quality build, ease of use, ease of cleaning, etc. I really see no...

Consistently great espresso, quick heatup times. Simple to prepare a good shot, and froth milk for a good latte

ugly! cheap plastic casing. steam could be better, but that would conflict with the quick heatup times, and i rarely use it so thats okay

Good first espresso machine.

Bought at local espresso boutique and paid over $300. Too expensive for overall product.

Nice compact design

Milk steamer/frother too short

The Gaggia Espresso is a great beginning machine and works great.

The Gaggia Espresso is a great machine to start out the adventure into the wonderful world of espresso. It's cheap for all the people who haven't figured out that if you want good espresso, it's going to be expensive (how I was two years ago) and yet...

Easy to use ; Cheap cost ; Easy to clean

Small water reservoir ; Small water catcher ; Portafilter only allows certain cups ; Steam wand -- with the "magic frother" is too large to allow even the smallest of pitchers under

Great first machine. Basic design makes it a good teaching machine for learning espresso basics.

I got mine at a local warehouse club new in box for 50 bucks US. After tweaking my grinder (a Bodum Antigua) to get a finer grind, I have been able to consistently get high quality, great crema, and excellent taste from this machine. The slight...

Inexpensive, basic, capable of excellent results

Plastic case, slightly odd design (cosmetic)
