Nest's thermostat gets smarter, adds a temperature sensor

A better display and a temperature sensor accessory make Nest's Learning Thermostat more appealing.

The $249 Nest Learning Thermostat has a larger display, a better resolution and a far-field sensor for viewing time and temperature information from a distance. It works with Google Assistant and Alexa -- and Nest *finally* sells a temperature sensor...

The Nest Learning Thermostat isn't compatible with Apple HomeKit.

Nest is a solid smart thermostat, but the Ecobee4 offers more smart home integrations and a better overall value.

Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd Generation)

The third-generation Nest Learning Thermostat has all the smarts of its predecessors and adds some new features including a larger display, geofencing support, a furnace monitor, and a few more sensors.

Sleek design. Easy to install. Loaded with features. Interacts with other Nest and third-party devices. Support for Alexa, Google Home, and IFTTT.

Lacks remote room sensors. Pricey.

If you liked the earlier versions of the Nest Learning Thermostat, you'll love the third-generation model. It offers all of the smarts of its predecessors, including Auto Scheduling and Auto-Away features, energy usage reporting, remote management via...

Nest Learning Thermostat Third Generation

The new model uses an all-new design with a larger screen and slimmer profile, plus it adds a couple of new features to the mix. Like the original Nest -- which launched back in 2011 -- the third-gen iteration of its heating and cooling control system...

The next-gen Nest Learning Thermostat has a larger display, a better resolution and an all-new far-field sensor for viewing time and temperature information from a distance.

Nest is behind in the accessories department; remote temperature sensors would add a lot to this smart thermostat's functionality.

Nest is still our choice for best overall smart thermostat, but it isn't massively different from the second-gen model and the gap is narrowing as other brands introduce solid competitors.

Nest Thermostat 3rd-gen Review (2015)

Nest created the smart thermostat market, and now it's under attack. Turns out the appeal of home temperature control without requiring programming more complex than a graduate degree, and more flexible than "on" or "off", is enough to lure in not only...

The Best Smart Thermostat

We tested the top five smart thermostats for over a month, and our pick is the simple-to-use, easy-to-integrate third-generation Nest Learning Thermostat.

While the competition has definitely crept up on the Nest, it still stands out from the pack due to excellent hardware and elegant, smart software. Its Works with Nest program means it integrates with a slew of smart-home devices to turn your home into...

Nest Learning Thermostat Version 3 Review (2015 Edition)

In choosing between smart thermostats, the Nest is pretty evenly matched with the Ecobee3. Both are attractive, easy to install and use, and can connect to a wide range of other smart home devices. I give the Ecobee a slight edge, because its secondary...

Large display ; Works with multiple smart home systems ; Intuitive Interface ; Easy to install

Can't monitor temperature in multiple rooms ; Doesn't work with Apple HomeKit

The third-gen Nest Learning Thermostat sports a bigger display, comes with more temperature sensors and works well with other smart home gadgets.

Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Generation Review

The Nest Learning Thermostat's ability to program itself and extensive smart home compatibility make it the best thermostat you can currently buy. It quickly learns your preferred temperature and constantly tweaks its settings to create a comfortable,...

Nest's thermostat tracks your temperature preferences and schedule then programs itself accordingly.

The company’s two-year warranty is shorter than the industry average.

The Nest Learning Thermostat is an incredibly efficient, easy-to-use programmable thermostat. Its automatic scheduling feature is the most advanced we've seen, and it’s a valuable addition to any home.

Nest Thermostat

If reports are to be believed, Nest may be going through tough times with its parent company, Alphabet (Google). Nevertheless, its flagship product – the Nest Thermostat – remains the go-to option for those trying to make their home a little smarter.

Nest 3.0 review: The smartest thermostat just got smarter

We had Nest 3.0, the smart learning thermostat, installed at the tail-end of 2015, replacing the 2.0 model installed in the summer of 2014. Since then it's been sensing and learning our heating habits. Good job, as the wintry cold spell has really...

Best looking smart thermostat solution, adds hot water control for 3.0, smartphone GPS tracking, Family Accounts, detailed scheduling is easy to use, learns your preferred settings over time

Lacks zone controls around the home, can sometimes be erratic in decision making, “heating boost” option would benefit for things like drying washing in winter

When it comes to intelligent heating solutions the Nest Learning Thermostat is the best looking of the bunch that we've seen. Sorry Tado, Honeywell, Hive, et al - even though all of these allow you to control your heating from anywhere you are in the...
