Apricorn Aegis Fortress L3 Review

Extreme level of security (PIN entry plus hardware-based AES 256-bit encryption). ; Ruggedized construction. ; Decent performance. ; Good-looking and easily portable. ; Comes with USB Type-A and Type-C cables.

Very expensive.

Apricorn's Aegis Fortress L3 has a sky-high cost per gigabyte of storage, but it's electronically and (pretty much) physically unbreakable. If you're looking for the ultimate in security in a portable drive, it's the Fort Knox of SSDs.

Apricorn Aegis Padlock DT FIPS (4TB)

If data security is a concern, Apricorn's Aegis Padlock DT FIPS is a 4-terabyte encrypted external hard drive with multiple layers of security and features that make it easy to implement.

4TB of storage. Simple security with 256-bit AES encryption. Metal construction. Handy built-in keypad.

Limit of five lock codes. Bulky desktop design requires AC adapter for power.

Conclusion In terms of performance, the Apricorn Aegis Padlock DT keeps close pace with some of the faster consumer drives on the market, and on top of that adds some of the best security you can get commercially. With multi-layered protection and an...

Apricorn Aegis Bio 3.0

The Aegis Bio 3.0 adds biometric fingerprint security to a speedy hard drive.

Easy to use biometrics. Embedded cord. Comes with extension cord and case. No software needed. Three-year warranty. Speedy.

Administration is inflexible, if simplistic. Only 5 user security.

Apricorn Aegis Secure Key Review: Nifty Integrated Keypad Safeguards Your Data

The Apricorn Aegis Secure Key is the first PIN-secured flash drive we've tested that manages to maintain a svelte profile. It's a tad longer than a standard USB flash drive, but no larger in any other aspect. Despite its relatively diminutive size, the...

Integrated keypad ; Works with any OS or device

No FIPS 140-2 certification as of yet ; Slow performer

This slender keypad drive is secure and can handily be used with any operating system or device, but performance is subpar.

Apricorn Aegis Secure Key

Since no software is needed, you can use the drive with any USB-capable device, regardless of the operating system. Windows, Mac OS, Linux—even a proprietary device with a proprietary operating system would be fine as long as it supports USB.

Encrypted USB unlocks with onboard PIN pad. Compatible with any operating system that supports USB. Slim design doesn't block ports. Unlimited encryption keys. Even fingernails leave no telltale trace on tough PIN pad keys

Manual as delivered contained a significant omission (since fixed). Setting Admin PIN is a tricky process

When this USB drive is locked, it's totally cut off, leaving no entry for a hacker. You unlock it using an onboard PIN pad that's designed to resist telltale scuffing of the keys you use. It needs no software and works with any operating system. It's a...

Apricorn Aegis Secure Key 16GB Review

Everything about the Aegis Secure Key telegraphs that Apricorn is serious about the whole data-security thing. The Secure Key has 256-bit AES full hardware encryption, so it doesn't require software or drivers—it's completely platform-independent, and...

Apricorn Aegis Padlock SSD review

Can the problem of data vulnerability at rest be solved by a piece of hardware?

Tough nut ; Very secure ; No need for software

Lack of on-board battery ; Drive unusable if USB cable is damaged ; Performance is hideous ; Very expensive

The Aegis Padlock SSD is one of the toughest and most secure drives on the market. It is expensive and slow, but otherwise fulfills the role of being an impregnable guardian of your data in a post-GDPR era.
