Mushkin Callisto Deluxe 60GB Review

The Callisto series of solid state drives (SSDs) from Mushkin were released just four months ago and showed that the use of the Sandforce 1200 series controller offered performance superior to that of the INDILINX and Jmicron controlled drives that...

Performance ; Trim Support ; Warranty ; Included 2.5" to 3.5" bracket ; Pricing

What you get with the Callisto Deluxe is great performance across the test suite. Where this drive excels is in the small file write category, where it delivers superior performance when compared to other non Sandforce-equipped solid state drives. When...

Not what I expect from Mushkin

I used to buy Mushkin memory exclusively. I used to drive right down to their office in downtown Denver and pick up memory. People there used to know me by name. Then they moved to a cheaper part of town. I bought their power supplies and had nothing...

It's an SSD, and I got a pretty good deal on it for $110

It doesn't come anywhere near meeting the stated specs. Highest read speed I've ever gotten was about 200MB/sec (SATA III), and best write speed I can get is about 50MB/sec. I've had it for 2 years and 3 months, and still works really well, but based...

Good While It Lasted

Try to stay away from ssd's with sandforce drivers. Save yourself the trouble and go with something like Samsung, Intel, or Crucial. I have a Samsung 840 and a Crucial m4 both are still going strong after much heavier use.

Good while it worked

Died in 8 months without any warning. This drive really didn't even see too much use until the last month or 2, machine was off most of the time ; Went to boot up one day after the machine had been off for a few days and the drive didn't show in bios....

Awesome Performance

My wife's older notebook is running a lot faster now with this drive installed. With the old hard drive, it seemed like everything she did took forever. She'd ask me for help with something and I'd want to throw the thing on the floor ; With this drive...

Short Life

Fast, worked right out of the box

Died in May, bought in November. 7 months seems like what a lot of people are seeing. I'll RMA it, but it sounds like the replacements aren't much better

2 out of 3 Dead in less than 4 Months

Price was good but a 66% (2 out of 3 failed within 4 months) failure rate for an SSD is not acceptable. I guess you get what you pay for. Took over 2 weeks to get a replacement the first time. Waiting on the second now. Now I have to pay return...

HD Failure

Don't store anything on one of these SSD drives that you can't live without - they apparently fail without the usual warnings that a mechanical drive will give such as clicks, pops, or whining. Let's see what the Mushkin RMA process is like now.

It was fast while it worked

Failed after 10 months of light use without any warning at all, one boot up it worked, the next boot up it didn't. This HD is not recognized by any OS (Windows, OSX, or Linux) by any partition manager that we've tried (Gparted, FDisk, etc). Completely...

RECAP

Just to recap on this drive. Now that my wife's laptop has this drive in it she is amazed on how fast it boots up and opens and closes apps. I have timed it from start to windows desktop to be 17sec. Not bad compared to the older HDD

No instructions for installing. Usually not needed but some mobo's have a setting in the bios to identify the main drive to be an SSD or HDD. Just be aware of this if you have a newer MOBO

Mushkin Enhanced MKNSSDCL60GB-DX

Frezzes

Sold not long after i bought it.

It was fast when it worked right

Every boot it would freeze for about 30 seconds. It seemed like my 5400 rpm laptop drive outperformed it in everyday usage
