ASUS VivoTab RT review: everything you loved about the Transformer tablets, but with Windows

More Info ASUS outs Tablets 600 and 810, Transformer-like slates running Windows 8 ASUS outs dockable Windows 8 VivoTab and VivoTab RT ASUS VivoTab RT 10.1-inch Windows 8 RT tablet comes to AT&T later this year, we go hands-on Read the comments on any...

Long battery life ; Thin, light design ; Good camera

Cramped keyboard ; Some performance hiccups ; Limited app selection at launch

The VivoTab RT is thin, easy to hold and lasts a long time on a charge. It has a best-in-class camera, too. Just be prepared for a cramped typing experience.

Asus Vivo Tab RT review

Even though Microsoft's Surface gets the lion's share of the press, it's not the only tablet running the pared-down Windows RT operating system . The Asus Vivo Tab RT will be one of four Surface rivals going head-to-head with Microsoft's tablet this fall.

Asus' Vivo Tab RT features the Windows RT's elegant and refreshing user interface, has a bright and rich screen, and is equipped with a keyboard dock for maximizing productivity.

The Vivo Tab RT's keyboard is cramped, its operating system takes some time to get used to, and both its app store and Desktop interface are severely limited.

With its vivid screen, sturdy build, and sleek user interface, the Asus Vivo Tab RT is an excellent tablet in its own right -- but it can't beat the innovative Microsoft Surface RT.

Review: Asus VivoTab RT has thoughtful design, but brings a mixed tablet experience

Asus' latest tablet is stylish and benefits from Microsoft Windows RT's strengths, but also trips up on some tablet basics.

Stylish design ; Useful keyboard dock ; Keyboard's key design less comfortable than on previous iterations

Windows RT OS stumbles in some mobile use scenarios

Tablets are all about the experience of software married to hardware. The Asus VivoTab's solid hardware provides the makings of a good experience, and Windows RT is a good foundation for that experience. But Windows RT's many software quirks and...

Asus Vivo Tab RT

The Asus Vivo Tab RT is a Windows RT tablet in the style of the Microsoft Surface. It adds a clamshell laptop dock to the mix, which both extends battery life and adds a few rough edges.

Very good battery life. Mechanical keyboard on dock. Dock includes supplemental battery. NFC built in. IPS+ display. Includes Office RT. Very light.

Some Trackpad issues. Only 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. USB requires dongle or Mobile Dock. Cramped keyboard.

Asus Vivo Tab RT review

When I reviewed the Asus Transformer Pad Infinity, one of the best Android tablets available, I ended with this: "If you want one device that's both a tablet and a laptop, I'd wait a few weeks to...

Light, thin form factor ; Excellent battery life ; Above-average speaker

Windows RT has some serious flaws ; Keyboard and trackpad are too small ; App ecosystem is basically non-existent

I'll take bigger and heavier, in exchange for more useful

Review Asus Vivo Tab RT TF600 Tablet

The battle begins. The Microsoft Surface RT was the first device

Precise touchscreen; Workmanship / choice of materials; Work speed; Battery life; Bright screen

No digitizer pen; Current price; Full-sized USB port only in dock or via adapter

The touchscreen's accuracy even with the tiny Windows icons is brilliant.

Asus VivoTab RT Review

The Surface RT is garnering plenty of attention for the moment, however, we're now seeing a steady stream of alternative Windows RT tablets coming to market. Case in point, the Asus VivoTab RT, which takes the best design aspects of what we see from...

Sleek and sturdy design ; Better camera performance than the Surface RT ; Convertible design ; Phenomenal battery life with the keyboard dock

Keyboard layout is a bit cramped

Before we get into the nitty gritty, we’d like to point out that Asus is offering a special promotion on the VivoTab RT, which enables any buyer of the tablet to get the keyboard dock for free. Yes folks, you heard that right! If you pick up the tablet...
