Sony Bravia XBR-46HX909 46-Inch LCD TV HDTV Review - PCWorld

The Panasonic Viera TC-P46G25 has a lot going for it, including a very low price. But the image quality just doesn't measure up.

Sony Bravia XBR-HX909 review: Sony Bravia XBR-HX909

Sony Bravia XBR-HX909

Produces extremely deep black levels; video processing properly handles 1080p/24 material; relatively accurate color with linear grayscale; 3D compatible; 2D-to-3D conversion system works better than expected; numerous streaming video services;...

Extremely expensive; exhibits more blooming than competing local dimming LED models; black areas tinged bluer; subpar off-angle viewing; 3D exhibited ghost images along edges (crosstalk); does not include 3D glasses or IR emitter.

Although its black levels challenge the best ever, some other picture-related aspects of the Sony XBR-HX909 series don't live up to the high price.

Sony Bravia XBR-46HX909 HDTV Review

The last Sony TV we reviewed with superb picture quality was the ultra-expensive KDL-55XBR8 from 2008, which also and not coincidentally featured the company's last example of a full-array local ...

Sony Bravia XBR-46HX909 LED-Backlit LCD 3DTV (TPV 94)

Although a little late to the 3D HDTV party, Sony is moving into the important fall selling season with a fairly broad range of 3D-capable models, and have already lowered list prices on select models, such as the top-line Bravia XBR reviewed here,...

Review: Sony Bravia XBR-46HX909

The Sony Bravia XBR-46HX909 has excellent image quality and a lot of Internet programming; but at $3000, it doesn't come cheap.

A panel of five judges convened at the PC World Labs gave the Bravia XBR-46HX909 a slightly higher average score than they awarded the other three 46-inch HDTVs we tested with it. Among the faults detected were too much contrast in a couple of scenes,...

Almost Too Good

First off, I decided to upgrade to this TV from a previous Sony Bravia I had purchased about 5 years ago. I had the older 40 inch Bravia XBR. That was without a doubt the best TV available at the time. Over the years people have shown me 1080p TVs from...

I thought I was going to buy a Samsung

I recently decided I was going to purchase a new TV. I went online and spent a lot of time researching everything. It seemed like the Samsung UNC8000 was a well liked set by most reviewers. It is a edge lit LEd set with the added feature of local...
