Toshiba 55WL863 review

Sculpted by Danish industrial designer Jacob Jensen and featuring the brand's multi-processor CEVO engine processor, the Toshiba 55WL863 packs a real punch

Crisp high definition images ; Great SD upscaling ; Classy Jacob Jensen design

Network file playback not good ; Limited net portal ; Double imaging on 3D

The Toshiba 55WL863 is certainly a mixed bag, although not without appeal. Its design is delightful; there’s flair to its finish which sets it apart from other cookie-cutter flatscreens. However Toshiba’s online portal Places is distinctly second...

Toshiba 55WL863 3DTV review

Although a certain type of AV enthusiast shudders at the very mention of ‘processing' in a TV, the reality is that no decent telly can produce good pictures without using at least some processing.

Beautiful build quality; exemplary 2D pictures; mostly very good 3D; well-presented online portal and GUI

Noticeable crosstalk on 3D; Places needs more content ; Performance: 5/5 ; Design: 5/5 ; Features: 5/5 ; Overall: 5/5

Toshiba 55WL863 review

The Toshiba 55WL863 is a very accomplished set with a pleasing design, sharp HD pictures and excellent 3D images from Blu-ray discs. But poor Internet features, a bad remote and unimpressive standard-definition pictures relegate it to second best.

Impressive HD pictures ; Natural skin tones and vivid colours ; Good sound quality ; Backlighting with local dimming

SD material isn't handled all that well ; Internet features are poor ; Horrible remote control

The 55WL863 has a number of strengths: its stylish and masculine design will appeal to many and its HD pictures are impressively sharp and clean. The set produces very strong 3D pictures from Blu-ray discs.
