HP Reverb G2 Review

High resolution for the price ; Comfortable headset and controllers ; Works reliably with SteamVR

Camera-based tracking has occasional hiccups ; Much more expensive than the Oculus Quest 2, even when factoring the optional cable for PC tethering ; Windows Mixed Reality is almost completely dead as a VR platform

The redesigned HP Reverb G2 VR headset offers a more comfortable fit and reliable experience than its predecessor, while maintaining the same sharp picture and reasonable price. It lacks some of the competition's more compelling benefits, though.

Review: The refreshed HP Reverb G2 gets better without costing more

HP's Reverb G2 is VR/WMR headset that focuses heavily on the visual experience. It recently received a refresh, and we got our hands on the new model to see what it's all about.

Spectacular visual experience ; Robust audio system ; Full compatibility with SteamVR and its libraries ; Improved FOV with new face gasket removable riser (G2-V2) ; Seemingly improved controller tracking (G2-V2)

No touch-capacitive sensors on controllers ; Tracking could still be better

Bottom line: The refreshed HP Reverb G2 doesn't likely warrant a re-buy over the first Reverb G2, but the changes made are welcome for anyone who's looking to break into VR and WMR. It's a good sign for all fans of VR that HP is continuing to innovate...

Offering high resolution at a reasonable price, the Reverb G2 suffers from its own problems as well as from relying on Windows Mixed Reality.

Fantastic resolution ; Good sound ; No external sensors required

Tiny sweet spot ; Issues with AMD-based PCs
