Review: Polk Audio I-Sonic Entertainment System 2 with iTunes Tagging

Inventors have been dreaming up ways for radio listeners to tag jams emanating from boomboxes and alarm clocks since the late '90s. That was when...

Huge, tight, room-filling sound packed into a compact design. Auxiliary input enables general sound system use. Displays station signal strength, stores presets. Includes cradle adapters for dockable iPods and iPhones. S-Video and composite outputs...

iTunes Tagging can’t name every tune, only works with 5G video iPod, 3G iPod Nano and iPod Classic. No display on remote, Wi-Fi or internet radio

Polk Audio I-Sonic ES2 review: Polk Audio I-Sonic ES2

Polk Audio I-Sonic ES2

High-end tabletop radio; improved controls and design over original I-Sonic; AM/FM/HD radio; built-in iPod dock with video output; iTunes Tagging function for HD Radio songs; full-bodied sound from two front and two rear speakers.

Expensive; lacks CD/DVD player, satellite radio, and network audio functionality; iTunes Tagging function isn't particularly useful.

The Polk Audio I-Sonic ES2 pairs the same excellent sound as its predecessor with an improved design--but we would've liked more features at this price.

In the criminally-underrated Get Shorty, a rental car company gives Chili Palmer (John Travolta) an Oldsmobile Silhouette instead of the Cadillac he requested. "Well, this is the Cadillac of mini-vans" is what he's told to help ease the pain. For a lot...

The next time you place your iPod on the cradle, the ES2 transfers those songs to your iPod in the form of a playlist called "Tagged." The final step occurs when you synchronize your iPod with iTunes on your computer. The "Tagged" playlist transfers...

Review: Polk Audio I-Sonic ES2

Boiled down to the basics, I-Sonic ES2 is a tabletop AM/FM radio system with an integrated iPod dock and four distinguishing characteristics: it's sharper-looking than the i765 and Wave Radio, it offers slightly better sound, plus it has both an HD...

Similarly, though the iTunes Tagging feature generally works when the HD Radio is working, the radio's tendency to lose the digital signal inhibits the tag button's performance, as a song's data blanks out when the radio falls back to analog. There...
