Canon XH review

Canon XH Giving independent videographers something to choose from besides its popular but long-in-the-tooth GL2 , Canon offers up two HDV models designed to appeal to the prosumer and entry-level pro markets. Derived from the same technology that the...

Excellent video quality; extremely customizable; great lens and optical stabilizer; fast focus.

No 720p recording capability; coarse, low-resolution LCD.

Canon's XH A1 and XH G1 are excellent camcorders for entry-level professionals and independent filmmakers, with hard-to-beat prices for what they offer.

Canon XH G1 and XH A1

The Canon XH A1 and XH G1 are, quite simply, awesome cameras. Coming on the heels of the XL H1 introduction, the A1 and G1 are welcome additions to Canon's HDV offerings.

Camera Corner Review: Review of the Canon XH G1 and XH A1 Camcorders

Earlier this year, Canon introduced its first High Definition DV camcorder, the XL H1. In my opinion and those of many critics, it is the best High Definition camcorder on the market in its price range. When comparing the Canon to other manufacturers...

I experienced the same thing when the first Canon XL was introduced. In that case, the viewfinder assembly would snap off, simply by leaving it on a car seat. I went through three of those cameras in a month, but again it was because the cameras were...

Our own Morgan Paar was on hand in New York to see the new HDV offerings in the form of the XH G1 and XH A1. He wrote back saying, "These look great and having Canon glass, you know they will shoot a great image." These two are Canon's first HDV...

Look for the XH A1 in time for Halloween, and the XH G1 soon after

Canon XH G1

Canon's new XH G1 gives production houses and TV studios a new HD shooting option with plenty of features and impressive output.

Outlook Though an impressive HD camera, its price (AU$11,499) and weight (2.33kg) means that this is not a camera for the average consumer, however its intended audience (production houses and TV studios that require live-switching) should be well served.

Canon XH G1 Review

Mode, speeds manual focus considerably. Canon provides seven gain levels: 36dB, 18dB, 12dB, 6dB, 3dB, 0dB, and -3dB (although, irritatingly, you can only program three on the L/M/H switch. At its lowest gain, video looks incredibly smooth, and even as...
