Canon ZR830 review: Canon ZR830

Canon ZR830

Easy to use menu system with joystick control; impressive color in good lighting; wide-screen LCD; built-in lens cover; low price.

No accessory shoe or microphone input; bottom-loading tape compartment; low-resolution still photos; not enough stabilization at maximum zoom; poor low-light performance.

If you don't shoot in low light and don't plan on using it to shoot still images, this feature-rich camcorder is a bargain.

Amongst Canon’s new line of ZR camcorders, the ZR830 finds itself between a rock and a hard place. It is the middle child, wedged between the ZR800, which includes a microphone jack, and the ZR850, which offers better video quality and larger stills....

Compact, - Inexpensive, - Reliable media

Cheap construction, - More compelling choices in model-up and model-down

Canon ZR830 Camcorder Review

The Canon ZR830 ($299 MSRP) is not a bad little DV camcorder, but with HD moving towards the mainstream, and new formats sprouting left and right, this DV camcorder seems like a bit of a throwback. This is not a camcorder that reflects any of the major...

The Canon ZR830 is without a doubt a pretty good DV camcorder at a pretty good price. The problem is, it's step-up sibling, the ZR850 offers some worthwhile upgrades, and only costs a few dollars more - better video resolution (with a negligible drop...

The ZR830's 1/6-inch imager is capable of producing 680,000 gross pixels, which is pretty standard amongst the vast majority of entry-level camcorders. In bright light, the ZR830's colors appeared saturated, yet remained strong in the greens, blues,...

Canon ZR830

The Canon ZR830 shares its core imaging specs with the ZR800, the standard entry-level 1/6" CCD with 680,000 gross pixels. The effective pixel count changes depending on the aspect ratio and electronic image stabilization (EIS); in 16:9 with EIS on, it...

Pretty Good

I havn't fully checked it out but I believe you can use it as a webcam with the proper software and you can film directly to your HD's for sure. Still finding new features as I like to explore the device rather than read the manual.

Light weight, easy to use, fits the hand comfortably, inexpensive--not cheap, loads of features. Good camcorder for the buck

No night vision if you get the 850 you get the night vision but not on the 830. Some motor noise but have not noticed it on the tape at play back maybe because I have the wind filter turned on? The included cable will not transfer you video to your...
