Garmin Virb Elite

The Garmin Virb and Virb Elite are functional, durable action cameras that aren't quite as durable or functional as their main competitor.

Rugged design. Good 1080p and 720p performance

Requires an optional dive case for shooting underwater. Video quality and resolution dwarfed by the GoPro Hero3 Black Edition

Garmin is jumping into the action camera field staked out so thoroughly by GoPro with the Virb and Virb Elite cameras. These rugged, waterproof, mountable 1080p video cameras come with everything you need to shoot your latest ski run, skateboard line,...

Garmin VIRB Elite Quick Review

We got our hands on another action camera and this time it's from Garmin. Announced late last year , the VIRB is the company's first time to join the sports camera category as the company decides to take a break from producing sat-nav devices. Could...

Garmin VIRB Elite Review

The Garmin VIRB Elite has three HD video modes, a long battery life, GPS, Wi-Fi, digital stabilization, photo capture and is water resistant. These features make it a versatile wearable camera for action sports, photography and family use.

The rugged design of the Garmin VIRB Elite makes it ideal for sports and vacation use, but with a variety of attachments and versatile software, it works well for families too. However, with a maximum three-hour battery life, it is not a good option...

Garmin VIRB Elite

A top quality action cam with some interesting excercise tracking features

ANT+ sensor and remote connectivity ; WiFi functions ; Good image quality

No live Internet streaming ; No zoom

The bundle includes two mounts, although both are fairly similar. Both are adhesive, with one providing a flat surface and the other concave, so it will adhere more securely to a helmet. Two sets of fixings are included, too, so you can easily transfer...

Garmin VIRB Elite review

An action camera with GPS built in

GPS data ; Simple operation ; Good quality footage

Limited depth waterproofing ; Tricky to swap microSD cards ; White case marks easily

The VIRB exploits Garmin's GPS expertise, and it's well designed with a simple slide switch to start and stop recording. It arrives with a GoPro mount adapter, and the whole package has been well thought out, though it's only waterproof to 1m without...

Garmin VIRB Elite review

There's a new kid on the action cams block – but does Garmin have the gnarly skills to take on GoPro?

Useful colour screen Easy to operate Colourful footage

Screen struggles in dim light Not as small as a GoPro Limited dynamic range

With a rugged form and new tricks aplenty, the Garmin VIRB Elite is our new favourite action cam

Garmin VIRB Elite review

GoPro cameras are, as you'll have probably seen here on Coolsmartphone, a cool way to record your sporting activity. However, when I asked GoPro to load one of their cameras to review, they said... basically, no. The people at Garmin however, did loan...

Overall, a very lightweight, strong and durable camera which has gone through storms and to Paris and back. I can definitely vouch for the reliability and strength of this thing and, because it’s the “Elite” model, I was able to use the smartphone...

Garmin Virb Elite

Requires an optional dive case for shooting underwater. Video quality and resolution dwarfed by the GoPro Hero3 Black Edition.

Video quality is nice and smooth, though you’ll have to step down to 720p to get full 60 frames per second compared to 1080p’s 30 frames. For lots of action, that’s a must to reduce blur or stuttering. The 1080p test video I recorded looked bright and...

My 3rd action cam, best so far

I use this camera mostly on a motorcycle and on my helmet. I've had it now for perhaps 4 months. Better than DRIFT cameras, the iris won't go crazy on you in bright light, the resolution is quite good, good color rendering and I love the glove-friendly...

SO far SO good.

I bought this camera because it records the GPS data along with the video, to use on my Ultralight Aircraft. Since the weather has not been favorable for flying since I've received it have only been able to test on my bike. I especially like that...
