Sony Handycam DCR-SR40 review: Sony Handycam DCR-SR40

Sony Handycam DCR-SR40

Fast focus; 20X optical zoom lens.

No accessory shoe; heavily dependent on touch-screen interface; small LCD.

Sony's DCR-SR40 is a solid, midlevel, hard-drive-based option, though still-image buffs won't be impressed with this camcorder's submegapixel snapshots.

Consumer review (newegg.com)

Recommended but...BUY AT NEWEGG!!

Overall I'd say it's a quick and easy item to use but you can see from the cons that it's not perfect. Overall it's easy to use and provides a good picture and good sound, its not professional but better than most of us need for recording a piano...

Ergonomic grip, intuitive controls, easy mode allows for less clutter on camera, touch screen also allows for less clutter. Small size overall, touch screen works well with a sharp picture

Software that comes with it doesn't seem to be all that useful. Direct DVD burn function does not work yet. I'm sure it will given more time to research it but so far it's not quick and easy at all. Camera does not show up as camera device on computer...
