Sony Handycam DCR-SR80 review: Sony Handycam DCR-SR80

Sony Handycam DCR-SR80

Impressive image quality for a single-chip, MPEG-2 camcorder; decent still images; hotshoe for light or microphone; fast focus.

Too dependent on touch-screen interface; small LCD.

Sony's Handycam DCR-SR80 is a respectable hard-drive-based camcorder if you don't mind its touch-screen interface.

Sony DCR-SR80 Camcorder Review

The DCR-SR80 ($800 MSRP) sits at the top of Sony's new mid-priced hard disk drive (HDD) camcorder line. The budget follow-ups to the beloved DCR-SR100, this camcorder, along with the DCR-SR40 and SR60 are poised to knock JVC out of pole position in the...

Sony Handycam DCR-SR80 Camcorder Review

The built-in hard drive on this camcorder comes in handy. It is a very nice thing to not have to carry around empty discs or cassettes. Since the memory is all inside of the camcorder you'll never have to buy any kind of external memory source for the...

The Handycam DCR-SR80 is bit expensive, but anything of quality is. This is a very good camera with a good video quality. The unit and touch-screen are kind of small, but if that is the worst thing about the camera, then that isn't very bad. The best...

Sony DCRSR80

Sony has recently quadrupled the size of its hard disk based Handycam series, and the DCRSR80 sits atop the range of new models. With a 60GB hard driv...

Compression free video footage, lightweight, compact

Fringing, poor quality stills, lacks manual controls

A good bet for the casual user.

Sony Handycam DCR-SR80 review

One of the biggest first decisions to make right now when buying a camcorder is whether to get one that records to MiniDV, to mini DVDs, or to a hard drive. MiniDV, and mini DVDs offer great value for the money and convenience with home DVD players,...

Consumer review (newegg.com)

One word can describe this camera... WOW!

look at it this way this camera is only $100 more then a dvd cam and you dont have to play the dvd shuffle. for taping long events like a race you wont have to stop and change disk. which is sweet!

Is weird having a camera that capacity will outlast 3 batteries and i mean that in a good way. its wonderful not having to change dvd every hour. or wondering if i brought enough disk. with this camerea your only limited to your battery capacity. Lcd...

Excellent, easy to use camcorder ”

After the birth of my son, we decided we wanted to get a camcorder. The biggest thing was finding one that would be easy to use for the non-tech savvy. I also wanted something that could take still shots as well as video. I did a ton of research and...
