Acer Iconia W4-820-2466 review

Acer's first attempt at an 8-inch Windows 8 tablet, the Iconia W3, worked well enough for an early example of the style, but it was soon eclipsed by newer models from Dell, Lenovo, and others with better design, features, and performance.

Acer's Iconia W4 has excellent battery life for an 8-inch Windows tablet; plenty of ports for a slate, including HDMI, SD card, and USB, as well as a decently large 64GB SSD.

The clunky plastic design does the W4 no favors, and it's thicker and heavier than many other Windows tablets. The screen resolution feels dated compared to a growing number of HD-or-better tablets.

The 8-inch Acer Iconia W4 has a few advantages that help it stand out from a crowd of similar devices, including great battery life and enough ports to support basic productivity. It's also much better -- and less expensive -- than last year's W3...

Acer Iconia W4-820-2466

The Acer Iconia W4-820-2466 is a bright, compact 8-inch Windows 8 slate tablet. With a full copy of Microsoft Office Home and Student and almost 10 hours of battery life, it's a viable alternative to carrying an ultraportable laptop to class or meetings.

In-Plane Switching (IPS) screen. Micro-HDMI port. Includes Microsoft Office Home and Student. Almost 10 hours of battery life.

A bit pricier than rivals. No GPS. No 3G/4G/LTE. Lots of bloatware.

The Acer Iconia W4-820-2466 is a vast improvement over last year's Acer Iconia W3, mainly due to a much nicer screen. However, Asus VivoTab Note 8 remains our Editors' Choice for entry-level Windows 8 slate tablets, as it includes more features, such...

Acer Iconia W4 Review

If you are comfortable with Windows and are open to the idea of getting yourself a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, then the Acer Iconia W4 will make a good buy. However, if you're looking for a pure tablet experience that will give you optimal...

Good performance ; Solid build ; Comes with Windows

Windows 8 isn't a very good tablet OS ; Needs a Bluetooth keyboard+mouse to achieve full potential

Acer Allegro

With its curvaceous casing and chunky build. the Allegro may look reminiscent of Acer's Android-powered Liquid Mini. However, it's in fact the company's first phone to run Mango OS - the most up-to-date version of Windows Phone 7.

With Mango - officially known as Windows Phone 7.5 - onboard, the phone will come boasting "over 500 new features". These include Twitter and LinkedIn integration, multitasking, voice-to-test SMS, Internet Explorer 9 and voice-guided GPS.

Acer W4-820 NT.L31EK.005

Easy to handle, good size and feels sturdy as a unit.

Doesn't always respond, may be the touch-screen or Win8 but has a frustrating habit of not responding to touch commands. The on/off switch is too small.

If a Windows tablet is for you this is excellent value, good performance and good memory (go for 64gb version). Make sure you get version which includes MS Office Home and Student.
