ASUS PadFone 2 review: two times is a charm for this phone-in-tablet combo

It's only been half a year since the peculiar PadFone made its much-delayed entry into select markets, and earlier this week, ASUS' launch of its

Powerful and efficient quad-core chip ; Top-notch camera performance ; Surprisingly light tablet ; Innovative docking mechanism

No dedicated keyboard dock ; No microSD expansion

ASUS finally has a convincing PadFone and PadFone Station that are both very powerful and very portable.

Asus Padfone 2 hands-on: A different transformer

Asus just announced their new Padfone in Milan and we were on the scene to cover it live. The Asus Padfone 2 is an Android phone with the rather unique ability to become the heart of a tablet, just like the original Padfone.

Asus Padfone 2 Review

Last fall, we had the chance to check out the specialized device in the Asus Padfone, which introduced us to a whole new gadget category worth applausing. We're already seeing its successor in the aptly named Asus Padfone 2. Naturally, it's blessed...

Impressively lightweight smartphone ; Wickedly fast performance ; Unique dual-form functionality ; Sharp looking Super IPS+ display

Very expensive

Asus PadFone 2 review

The second generation of this dockable smartphone/tablet combo has a lot to recommend it, although we'd prefer a better tablet screen, a storage expansion slot (or two) and a standard Micro-USB connector.

Tablet/smartphone combo ; Clever twin battery system ; Well-specified handset

Average-quality tablet screen ; No storage expansion on tablet or phone ; Non-standard Micro-USB connector

There are two big disappointments, though: the quality of the tablet screen and the lack of storage expansion. We're also unclear why Asus has chosen to use a slightly tweaked Micro-USB connector.

ASUS PadFone 2 - A Serious Contender

It took ASUS just six months to come up with the successor to the highly innovative PadFone. Can the Taiwanese company push the envelope once again with the PadFone 2? Check out our full assessment to find out more!

Superb 4.7-inch display ; Good overall performance ; Great camera image quality ; Sleeker PadFone Station

No memory card slot ; Lack of a keyboard dock ; Could have shipped with Android 4.1 ; Real-world battery life is lackluster

Even though the first-gen PadFone was introduced barely six months ago, its successor arrived at a time where companies no longer take into consideration fixed product refresh cycles. Whether consumers like it or hate it, we feel that it is part of...
