HTC One V review: Chin up

The One series is the fresh new lineup of smartphones that helped HTC take the spotlight early in 2012. While the One S and One X are flexing muscle at each other as a way to stay sharp for the invasion of the other predators with multi-core processors...

Quad-band GSM and tri-band 3G support ; 3.7" 16M color capacitive touchscreen with WVGA resolution (480 x 800 pixels) ; Android OS v4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich HTC Sense 4.0 ; 1 GHz processor, Adreno 205 GPU, Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 chipset ; microSD...

Only 1GB of the 4GB internal storage is available to the user ; No front-facing camera ; Some competing smartphones have dual-core CPUs ; Non-user-replaceable battery ; No dedicated camera key

With the One series HTC are in their best shape in a while and we don't need to investigate who's to blame. The big bad One X and One S will proudly plead guilty as charged. But it would be unfair to deny the HTC One V its little share of credit.

HTC One V review

÷ It's the other One. While HTC's One X and One S jostle over which has the more potent processor, and customers weigh high-definition screens

Superb build quality ; Android 4.0 on an entry-level phone ; Boots quickly

Last year's specifications ; Misses out on some One series features ; Processor is overwhelmed by apps and internet browsing

HTC has established a new bellwether for entry-level phones. Of course, though, that tempting price means having to settle for more limited horsepower.

HTC One V (Virgin Mobile)

The $199.99 HTC One V on Virgin Mobile with Android 4.0, good camera, and a premium design is a great no-contract deal.

The ; is affordable, compact, and elegant, and runs Android 4.0 and Sense 4. It has a nimble camera and colorful screen.

A slow processor and pokey 3G data hold the One V back.

Demanding Android fans won't like the HTC One V's slow performance but its premium design and low, no-contract price makes it a steal on Virgin Mobile.

HTC One V (Virgin Mobile)

The HTC One V for Virgin Mobile offers good software at a good price, but it's a little underpowered.

Nice display. Runs Android and Sense 4.0. Comfortable size.

No 4G. Midrange hardware. No front camera. Chin design isn't for everyone.

Hardware, OS, and HTC Sense 4The One V is powered by a single-core 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S2 MSM8655 processor. It makes for solid midrange performance, but it's a bit behind the times if you want to do any high-end gaming. You should be able to run...

HTC One V (U.S. Cellular)

The HTC One V gets you modest power at a modest price on U.S. Cellular, but if you spend a little more, you can get 4G LTE and a lot more features.

Cellular) review: HTC One V (U.S. Cellular)

Small, compact smartphones are becoming a rare sight on carrier shelves these days. Indeed, much of today's cellular buzz centers around big-screened mobile machines such as Samsung's ubiquitous Galaxy S III , the HTC One X , or its Sprint variant, the...

The HTC One V is affordable, compact, and elegant, and runs Android 4.0 and Sense 4. It has a nimble camera and colorful screen.

A slow processor and pokey 3G data hold the One V back.

The HTC One V's premium design is fashionable but demanding Android fans should steer clear of this phone's poor performance.

HTC One V review

The HTC One V is the third member of HTC's One trilogy, filling in the budget slot below the One X and One S, which we reviewed in the last couple of weeks. It's less of a mold-breaking design for...

Industrial design is beautiful and hard-wearing ; Sense 4 is a dramatic improvement ; Great build quality ; Battery life is good

Some odd ergonomic decisions ; Low-end specs ; Sense doesn't fit with the cleaner Android 4.0 design

The One V has so much to like, but a few flaws let it down

HTC One V Review

While the HTC One X and One S are hogging the limelight with their mix of raw performance and excellent build quality, there's One more phone in the series that we need to turn our attention to. The HTC One V won't impress anybody with its spec sheet,...

So, is the HTC One V worthy of consideration given its features? It’s a good all-rounder, and we’d go as far to say that the build quality is best in class, not to mention better than some more expensive phones thanks to the high quality materials and...

HTC One V Review

You didn't think that after reviewing the HTC One X and HTC One S, we will disregard their little brother – the HTC One V, did you? Well, here it is, folks! We have taken this little munchkin for a spin and we cannot wait to share our experience with...

Compact and lightweight ; Beautiful display ; Android 4.0 ; Decent camera

Web browser needs more work ; Way too little internal storage ; Mediocre 720p video

Getting your hands on an HTC One V is going to cost you about $370 off-contract, which is definitely a reasonable price considering what you get in exchange. The smartphone has style and character that few devices in its price category can match, and...
