Huawei Mate 8 review

With strong specs, smart features, and good looks, Huawei's Mate 8 is strong enough to take on Apple and Samsung.

Huawei has a real winner with the Mate 8. It’s a strong flagship phablet that could easily take on the likes of Samsung’s Note 5, LG’s V10, and the iPhone 6S Plus if it made its way to the United States. Its sleek metal design, speedy fingerprint...

Huawei Mate 8 review: The big Huawei Mate 8 phone is a battery beast that costs too much

The 6-inch Huawei Mate 8's monster battery life is the shining feature in an otherwise pretty-good, but overpriced phone.

Huawei's Mate 8's battery life goes on and on, it snaps good photos and has a fast, accurate fingerprint sensor and a loud speakerphone.

This ginormous 6-inch phone is just too unwieldy for smaller hands. It has a dim screen and a low resolution compared with other phones.

The huge, metal Huawei Mate 8 has plenty of appeal and only minor drawbacks, but it's too expensive to sway fans of large-screen phones from the Nexus 6P or Samsung Galaxy Note 5.

The Huawei Mate 8 Review

It's been over a year since we reviewed the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 and Ascend Mate 2 . For many people and including ourselves at AnandTech these were among one of the first experiences with Huawei as a smartphone device manufacturer. Ever since our...

Lastly, there’s the Mate 8’s camera. In its current state with the B116 firmware version that the device was reviewed on the only way to accurately describe it is as a complete disaster. Huawei has promised that we’ll be seeing a software update in the...

Huawei Mate 8 Review

Announced during CES 2016, the Huawei Mate 8 is Huawei's “power-user” smartphone, designed to last longer and to perform well in most common use cases, including productivity, web browsing, video, and photography. As such, it comes with an impressive...

The Huawei Mate 8 is a very good handset across the board, but its main strengths reside in its impressive battery capacity and proprietary UX (user experience). The design bias towards superior battery life should be the primary factor in most...

Huawei Mate 8 Review

The Huawei Mate 8 (or NXT-L29 as it is also known) asks you to make a fundamental choice about what you are looking for in a phone. Or rather, it makes that decision for you by way of its generous form factor. The Mate 8 certainly puts the 'phab' in...

Huawei Mate 8 Smartphone Review

Fast and enduring. Huawei wants to enter the high-end competition with a 6-inch display and a brand-new SoC. We put the Mate 8 through our lab tests to see if this is a success.

great case, bright display, excellent performance, very good battery runtime, dual-SIM, memory expansion via microSD, fingerprint scanner, no bloatware

high color deviations of the display, bad front camera, high price, mediocre GPS, slight throttling under sustained load, speaker

The Huawei Mate 8 left a very good impression during our review with its noble chassis and the high performance. It is quite a big device with its 6-inch display, but the handling is still comfortable thanks to the thin frame. Besides the high...

Huawei Mate 8 Review

Surging to new heights after the successful release of the Google Nexus 6P, consumers around the world are becoming increasingly aware of the company behind the prized phone. Huawei's remarkable run in 2015 is extending already into the New Year, where...

Elegant all-metal design ; Slim & lightweight for its size ; Better-than-average battery life ; Tons of features with EMUI 4.0

Display color balance is off ; Disorganized user interface ; Weak internal speaker ; Greenish hues with indoor snapshots ; Wobbly effect with video capture

Huawei’s sudden surge is evident, there’s just no arguing how they’ve turned things around in just a year. The Huawei Mate 8 is yet another device in their portfolio that shows that they’re not backing down anytime soon, as it’s quickly establishing...

Huawei Mate 8 Review: A 6-inch phablet in a 5.5-inch form factor

Huawei jumped onto a lot of people's radars last year with the Nexus 6P. Eager to maintain that momentum, Huawei is now back with a new flagship phablet of its own, the Huawei Mate 8, a 6-inch phablet with the dimensions of a much smaller device thanks...

6-inch display in a 5.5-inch form factor ; Elegant all-metal construction ; Superb battery life ; Good value for a flagship phablet

EMUI 4.0 may not be for everyone ; Benchmark performance may not be able to compete with 2016 models ; No support for 4K video recording

The Mate 8's huge 6-inch display but relatively compact dimensions should appeal to anyone who wants a larger than average screen without trading off one-handed usability. Its Full HD display and 4,000 mAh battery give it outstanding battery life, and...

Huawei Mate 8 Review: Big, Buggy and Beautiful

Huawei has been trying to break into the U.S. market for years, and with some help from Google, the company got its foot in the door last fall with the Nexus 6P. We're huge fans of that smartphone, but how does Huawei's own phone hold up? After...

beautiful design ; blazing fast fingerprint scanner ; expandable storage

buggy software ; mediocre camera ; expensive and not available in U.S

Huawei isn’t actually selling the Mate 8 in the U.S., but considering how this device performed I’d be wary of making any of the phone running EMUI 4.0 my daily driver until the software shows some serious improvements. Then again, if you do end up...
