Nokia G50 review: Buy for the battery and software, not 5G

The Nokia G50 is a $300 with a 5G connection, which is a decent benefit but mostly for the future. Today, you'll want to get it for other reasons.

“The Nokia G50's 5G connection isn't a reason to buy, it's just a decent benefit for the future. Instead, the battery life and software make it worth seeking out.”

Nokia G50 review: affordable yet awfully average

This $300 phone compromised on performance for 5G.

Long battery life ; Sturdy, stainless steel framed body ; Main camera can take impressive photos

Heavy with sharp edges ; Low-resolution screen, not very touch responsive ; Laggy processor ; Ultrawide camera’s colors are inaccurate

Nokia and HMD Global bets on the G50 as its $300 5G phone. Despite its exceptional build quality, decent main camera, and 5,000mAh battery, this phone suffers from major performance issues that affect the user experience.

Nokia G50

Making a smartphone that stands out from the crowd is no easy task. Nokia's latest G50 is a testament to this.

Sturdy design ; Strong battery Life ; Many updates promised

Mono-speaker ; Underwhelming cameras ; Low-resolution, dim screen

Making a smartphone that stands out from the crowd is no easy task. Nokia’s latest G50 is a testament to this; it’s a smartphone with no glaring weaknesses but no praiseworthy strengths either. It has a big screen, good battery life and the promise of...

Nokia G50 review

A cheap way to get 5G, but there's a price to be paid

Excellent two-day battery life ; 5G connectivity for a low price ; Clean software

Low-res 60Hz display ; Chunky design ; 18W charging support, but only a 10W charger included

Nokia G50 initial review: Big battery on a budget

The latest G-series phone has a 5000mAh battery and 5G

Big 5000mAh battery promises two-day usage ; Headphone port in the top edge ; 5G equipped ; Android One program should mean regular updates

It's a big phone ; Lots of competition from Chinese manufacturers ; Not especially great value for money

On first impressions, the Nokia G50 seeks to offer the things that matter in an un-fussy fashion. You get a big battery, big screen and you're future-proofed thanks to 5G support and having the Android One program for software updates.

Nokia G50 review

Budget 5G that's compromise-free?

5G for very little outlay ; Huge screen ; Pure Android with guaranteed updates

Performance sluggish at times ; Cameras only so-so ; Strong competition at this price

A big screen and 5G support make the G50 an ideal phone for stream fiends trying not to break the bank. It’s not especially quick, and those cameras are merely OK, but it’s still a lot of device for your cash.
