Samsung A501

Samsung's latest HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) phone is a flip handset and one of the smallest in the new range of next generation 3G phon...

Small and lightweight, memory expansion slot, rotating camera

Low specifications in key areas, poor camera quality, external antenna, no SMTP e-mail support

The Samsung A501 is a solid, but far from outstanding HSDPA-capable phone. While its compact size may be an advantage, outdated specifications in key areas mean that the A501 isn't able to fully immerse you in the Next G experience as it should.

Good

I upgraded this phone to another one -the touch one. There are heaps of scratches already on my phone so I regret not sticking with a flip lid. This phone was pretty good and had everything I needed on it. I just couldn't find out how to download the...

Its quite compact and it has a flip lid which helps protect the screen.

Pretty good phone. I didn't have any problems with it when I had it for my 24month contract plan.

Good

Overall I think this phone is great! I have had it for a little over a year and haven't had any real trouble with it considering it has been dropped so many times and played with by the kids so many times also, it has stood up pretty well actually!...

It's cute! Flip lid! Cool soft pink colour! Speaker option!

Nothing really..although I don't use half the added options and I am sure most people don't..Bit of a waste adding them!

Excellent

Great little phone that does the job, has plenty of bells and whistles, great mp3 player with easy to use for copying music onto. Great menu system and very easy to use texting system.

This phone has all the features that a phone needs. The camera is Ok, however, it is phone camera so low resolution as expected. Great frame features, a bit of fun. The phone is easy to use and has speaker hands free feature which is the reason I went...

Letters are small for texting. Limited ringtones, you will soon get over that! Sizeable phone.

Good

As a prepaid phone the plan can be very expensive if you call a lot (my wife does), the ability to load mp3 in as ring tones is novel coming from an older phone. The front screen is handy but it would be nice if it told the time without having to open...

Neat little phone, with a relatively clear screen, comes in Pink and Blue and can be customised to suit your mood

The supplied games are demos and you cannot erase them, if you come from a Nokia phone the Samsung menus are very hard to get used to and the continual placement of Telstra logo drives me bonkers.

OK

This is my new work phone and I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't prefer an A701 which has a bigger screen, bigger buttons and isn't as chunky. It's acceptable, but a few annoying bugs. Not what I would have taken if I'd had a choice.

Seems reliable. Camera is passible.

Chunky by comparison to some models, MP3 player doesn't work properly (only plays 17 seconds of any song, but then full version will play as a ringtone!). The standard ringtones are lousy. The aerial is annoying when it's in your pocket. Stupid little...

Bad

Sturdy phone, built tough, looks nice, but I would rather have something that is more user friendly and not so aimed at making money from the downloads that the customer is forced to make. A cheap prepaid would have way more basic features than this...

Buttons are great and dont click as you text. Has some cool photo frame options. I like the nice Pink colour.

Small screen on front is USELESS!!! Stays on for 3 seconds only and then goes totally black, so you cant view the time! You can not adjust the amount of time the front screen stays on, Samsung tell me it is to same battery life, but I dont understand...

Good

Not a bad phone, there are many excellent features such as the MP3 player, camera with a flash, picture messaging etc. You can download pictures, ringtones and music from your computer to your phone (or vice versa) very easily with the software...

Lots of functions. Comes in two colours.

Doesn't come with any good ringtones
