Acer easyStore H340

Acer's entry-level easyStore H340 gives you everything you need to attach a robust Windows Home Server to your network, with plenty of room to expand. Its technical specs edge out HP's comparably-priced LX195—both are budget servers equipped with a...

Better value than HP MediaSmart LX195; four swappable drive bays; one-touch USB backup

Included software is pretty basic

One other notable feature is a one-touch USB backup button. Plug any USB hard drive into the front of the server, push the button, and the H340 automatically copies all of the files into the Public Shared Folder. It’ll also sort the files based on file...

Acer Aspire easyStore H340 Review

While the concept of servers is definitely not new, using them within the confines of the home definitely is.

Versatile ; Easily expandable ; 2GB RAM

WHS connector can be finicky ; Mysterious 'i' is vague

Reading around the internet, reception of Microsoft's Windows Home Server is favorable overall, with some users going so far as to say that it's the best product they've put out next to Windows itself. Frankly, I'm inclined to agree. The software is...

Acer easyStore H340 2TB

Sporting an Atom CPU and running Windows Home Sever, the easyStore H340 isn't just your average NAS.

The Acer easyStore H340 is keenly priced and well featured. Windows Home Server's simple initial setup process belies its underlying capacity to be hugely customised by a willing user. NAS devices are so 2009, what you really want is a home server.

Acer Easystore H340 2TB Nas box

Solidly built Nas box with the home media enthusiast in mind.

So if you need a NAS solution which is built to withstand a tactical nuclear strike, holds four disks, has six expansion ports and interacts well with most popular devices, then keep your attention focused on Acer’s Easystore H340. However, the lack of...

Acer support useless

It ask you for the serial number. I give it to it and it doesn't understand so it asks for it again. I give it again. This process repeats itself until it asks for it to be typed in with the keypad, so I type it in and it still doesn't understand. (I...

Wish I had the opportunity to use it to be able to review the features a functionality of this server, but I never even got it installed

Didn't work out of the box. Read the manual online before even opening the box so I could know what to expect. Followed instructions to the letter. When it came time to power it up, it never made it so that it would be possible to install the...

Will run WHS 2011 too!

With WHS 2011, I really do miss Drive Extender. Here's how I set up my drives: A fast 2T hd in slot 1, hosting the OS partition (C:) and a data partition (D:) for my working shares. The other three slots have slower 2T green drives -- E: for video &...

I used this box with the original OS for more than a year, and had a great experience. Then an added hard drive failed in a messy way (I lost backups, but luckily no data). I had to reinstall the OS, and decided to try WHS 2011. That is now working...

With the Atom processor, this server feels very slow when using the WHS 2011 Dashboard (or RDC) to manage it, especially compared to another 4-core Xeon-based server I have running the same OS. But then I don't really spend much time managing it. As...

Most frustrating WHS box.. ever.

I would save yourself the trouble and spend a little more for the HP Proliant MicroServer instead. For the same price, you get a box not much larger, with video-out, and supports up to 8GB of RAM where the Acer's only support up to 2GB. You don't get...

It's a great form-factor device. And it's pretty quiet. With knowing how to swap out drives (I got this same one from Neweg on Sept 15, 2010). I had it up to *TB total drivespace, and running like a champ when it wasn't having other issues

the NIC is extremely unstable. I've had to send it in multiple times to get the mainboard replaced due to a failed NIC. This is very common and you can read about ot on the forums. Now, out of warranty, and a failed NIC again, it's almost $300 to...

Horrible

Worst piece of equipment I have ever owned. Acer's recovery plan failed. Lost all my files (i.e. My Children's photos and home videos) Will never buy another Acer product as long as I live. Their tech support was a joke. These people suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look for a deal

If you are going to use a device like this, make sure your home network is set up correctly. I have my office set up with this, my desktop and 2 consoles. All of them are connected via a gigabit switch I picked up from Newegg for 25 bucks. I can stream...

I bought this off an auction with 3.75TB in it for less then here. After getting it home, I swapped the 750GB drive for a WD 1TB drive. My initial thoughts were disappointing. The WHS Connector seemed limited and the MacAfee AV was annoying. However,...

Though it seems to be aimed as a simple set up and go device, it is not. It took a little bit of time to figure it out and get it to do what I want it to do. The MacAfee software was not updated and constantly caused 'network health' issues. It would...

Great Home Server!

Wish it wasn't locked down as tightly as it is (no VGA card) but I've read forums where users have installed Linux or other operating systems without much difficulty.

Easy setup, quiet, management is simple. Runs well right out of the box without any modifications required.

No VGA card if troubleshooting is required.
