eMachines ET1831-07 review: eMachines ET1831-07

eMachines ET1831-07

Strong features for a low price; on certain tests, outperforms desktops that cost $125 more; room to expand inside; power-efficient.

Gaudy green-lit plastic strip on the front of the case; poor video playback performance.

The eMachines ET1831-07 isn't much of a video playback device, but in all other respects, this is a solid budget PC. Perhaps the best deal going for its features, it also outperforms other desktops in and above its price range on general computing...

eMachines ET1831-07

It's common knowledge that the lower the cost of a desktop system, the more likely it will be a machine that cuts corners to achieve that price. You don't often find a system that performs as admirably as its price is low. The eMachines ET1831-07, a...

Strong price-to-performance ratio ; Lots of storage space

Lacks gigabit ethernet networking ; Cluttered internal wiring

Offering capable performance and a stellar price tag, the eMachines ET1831-07 may not top the charts, but it's a great value.

emachines et1831-07 what you get and what you need

intel pentium dual core processor windows 7 64-bit home premium edition 1tb hard drive (even though the box reads 750gb) restart discs are first and foremost, make those immediately. you dont really have to worry about anti virus software anymore, if...

fast. proven reliability. easy to upgrade the graphics card and the power supply. you do not need a new motherboard, just buy a new graphics card and windows 7 installs the new drivers automatically. you dont have to reset through bios, or anything...

wimpy stock power supply. if you buy a computer with a dual core processor and the power supply is 250w, replace it with at least a 400w one with a bigger fan. it will extend the life of your computer ; cant upgrade to 8gb of ram without replacing the...

Great machine except...

Emachines, get with the program and be a bit more compatible with other manufacturers mkay?

Windows 7 came with very little bloatware and hooked up easily enough. For the price it's a nice little unit that will do any multi-media or graphics editing without hesitation. If you're going to game, get a better power supply to go with a graphics...

I would have given this 5 stars except for the fact that when I went to replace the power supply with a 500 watt unit for my gt 240 graphics card, the screw holes didn't line up. Apparently, the only power supply you can put in there is one from...

Not bad for a "Mom" Machine

I bought this for my Mom to replace her increasingly cranky 5 year old Dell and I'm really quite impressed with the overall quality of it. I've installed an inexpensive and low power Radeon 4650 which made Windows Media Center usable and added sorely...

Really solid out-of-the-box experience. Runs Windows 7 very well indeed. Very quiet. Minimal amount of bloatware. Mom *loves* it

The built-in nVidia 7050 is hopelessly outdated and underpowered (don't even think of trying to watch fullscreen NetFlix @ 1680x1050 for example) with a paltry Window 7 Experience score of just 3.2. Not upgradable without a motherboard and power supply...

Upgradeable and effective computer

If you are willing to spend money in the future, you can spec this computer out to a Quad-Core, 8 GB of RAM. That is what I'm planning on doing at some point.

Upgradeable ; Affordable ; Very fast, very efficient

Integrated graphics card (which doesn't run badly) ; Two slots for RAM ; PSI Express x16 doesn't have an extremely powerful graphics card capability (based on what I found on Newegg)

What a great machine

I will keep doing business with Newegg in the future.Always satisfied with products I receive from Newegg.

Ran right out of the box.All my apps loaded seamlessly.A pretty quick home machine. We don't do games but plays movies excellent.I built our last machine with parts from NewEgg about 6-7 years ago,was a great machine then but nothing like this one.I...

No modem, but for this price I'm not complaining. The only thing that would not work is my OLD modem.Modems are cheap so no complaints. The Keyboard is a cheap one so I put my wireless one on instead. No driver issues

Nice Machine

Very nice package. Unlike other reviewers, I found the keyboard & mouse (its optical) very usable. This should be a machine that you will not have to replace for a long time. Microsoft seems to have finally gotten it right with Windows 7. All my 32 bit...

Well designed machine ; Very quiet ; Mine came with a TB disk drive ; Has IDE connector if you need to add an older disk drive ; Even Windows 7 runs well ; Fot the price, you cant beat it

The 4G of RAM uses both memory slots. If you need to expand, you will have to pull the existing DIMMs ; Some bloatware to uninstall, but not a huge amount

great!!!!

I highly recommend this to the frequent but casual computer user.

Extreamly fast for personal use ; Does anything I throw at it ; Windows 7 is excellent (First PC I used with it, no let downs) ; Very quiet

I am still yet to have a problem with this computer

eMachines ET1831-07 Pentium E5400

Fabulous machine, it was here in 2 days with regular shipping. I really love NewEgg. Just be careful as many of your old devices won't work with x64 versions of Windows 7.. I have since replaced my flatbed scanner and laser printer due to Homegroup...

I am an IT professional, and I won an HP Mini last year. I tried to use it as a desktop - forget it! I've had an eMachine in the past (in my old gaming days) and can't say anything but wonderful things about it. Up and running in minutes, fast,...

We don't do wired internet in my house, so built in wifi would have been nice. But not really a con. For the price I paid, an add-on 802. n USB adapter is as fast as a silly PCI adapter any day
