Dell Inspiron 530

The Dell Inspiron 530 may outperform its budget competition, but the overall package leaves something to be desired.

Good performance. Decent expansion options. Bloatware-free configuration.

Lacks Media Center functionality. Smallish hard drive. Only 30 days of McAfee virus protection.

Dell Inspiron 530

The Dell Inspiron 530 was powerful enough to earn superior scores (for a value PC) in both its productivity and graphics performance tests, yet it's quite inexpensive at $689 (as of 2/7/08).

Strong performance in all benchmarks ; Discrete graphics card

FireWire ports not standard ; Requires tools for upgrades

Impressive application and graphics performance aided by dedicated graphics make this the best value in our test group.

Dell Inspiron 530 Review and Prices

Dell's new Inspiron 530 desktop computers start out at an excellent budget price, although the components you get for the $400 original sticker price aren't exactly cutting edge.

Dell Inspiron 530/2583 review

It's difficult to position Dell's Inspiron 530/2583 within our chart. It may have come in fifth place, but it hasn't really been running the same race.

Dell Inspiron 530n Ubuntu desktop PC

A few months ago in PC Advisor, we ran a feature on buying the cheapest desktop PC possible. We considered the idea of specifying no operating system at all, believing that the truly cash-strapped consumer might be interested in saving a few pennies by...

We'll be honest here. Beginners probably aren't going to like Ubuntu - it's still rather arcane and bewildering - and gamers shouldn't even bother. But Linux enthusiasts swear by the added functionality of many of its programs. Future upgrades (and...
