Dell Optiplex 3020 Micro: A business PC that's small enough to fit anywhere [Review]

The miniaturization of components for the benefit of notebooks has had a knock-on effect for desktops. Using some of the same components, desktops can be made a lot smaller too, or even designed to fit behind a screen for an all-in-one system. The Dell...

There's nothing particularly revolutionary about Dell's Optiplex 3020 Micro. It has been possible to cram most of the necessities of a PC into a box this size for some years now. It's also not going to be sufficient for anyone who has a need to use...

Basicly I got it to replace the laptop I was using to display my security cramra's on in the family room.

Came with windows 7 pro installed and had upgrade or downgrade disk for windows 8, I like windows 7 but lets face it it's not the latest software and wont be supported by Microsoft for much longer so I upgraded it to windows 10 to keep up to date with...

It does not say in the specs but is does have 802.11ac Wireless LAN, The small size makes it easy to put just about anywhere. Although they are made for mostly businesses they do make a nice system for surfing the net and watching video's or displaying...

Not really a con but other than the hard drive and memory there isn't anything to upgrade.

Cannot upgrade video card

Bought this and a Geforce low profile card, but it will not fit in this PC because it is so poorly designed that the put the upgrade slot right next to the power supply, making it so any card with a heat sink that is wider than 1 slot will not fit....

Small size is nice. Windows PRO is a must for remote desktop.

Not fast enough for AutoCAD, Rhino, and all our other office software.

Small problem on arrival

Does everything it was advertised to do.

Con: Did not work when it arrived. Turns out the clips holding the RAM in place came loose during shipping. 4 hours of searching Google about loose wires and connections ended with a /facepalm moment of duh!. Easy fix.

Poor quality

Either poor testing or cheap internal parts or both. Unable to return.

Priced competitively for an office desktop. Deployed 4 of these in an office.

Hard drive failed after 4 months of 15 hour a week use.

Nice Business Workstation

We purchased these to replace aging XP workstation for our office. There was a lot of confusion about the operating system. We wanted Windows 7 Pro. But the units were marked as Windows 8.1. However the units booted up with Windows 7 Pro (which could...

No DVD/CD reader. You will need to get an aftermarket one to plug in (fine with us)

Refurbished PowerColer AXR7 250

Shame on you Dell. ‘Thanks' for producing another ‘k-cup' product that will be disposed of as soon as the power supply fails. I decided to buy this machine in a time pinch for a client and now I have a ‘time bomb' with my client that will need to be...

Price, base specifications

Dell included a proprietary power supply that will need to be custom ordered (from Dell) upon failure. To further this insult, they ran all the SATA connections off another proprietary connector that is fed off the motherboard further ensuring that one...
