Meh

I'm a network admin for a school district, we have a few hundred GX270s and GX280s deployed. Hopefully we can replace them with GX520s eventually... those have their issues too... but, that's another review

Its an OK machine for $100 ; With enough RAM, Windows XP is snappy and responsive ; SATA hard drive ; DDR2 RAM - not expensive DDR ; Its fine for an every day use kind of machine. Email? Browsing the web? Not a problem ; Games? Not so much

Same case and PSU as the GX270s ; So, small form factor especially: the PSUs are utter garbage. Under powered and cheaply made, I'm constantly replacing them

Solid Workhorse

Run about 20 of these in a manufacturing facility, along with many GX260's & GX270's. The GX280 was the first of this series with SATA drives, meaning upgrading to a newer box is extremely easy. you can take the HDD out of one of these and put it...

Solid, reliable workhorse computer

None standard PSU, cooling, etc ; These dont really count for much of a con as there is a massive glut of parts for these machines readily available on auction sites for next to nothing

Spec clarifications for the Opti 280

These machines aren't sexy, but they might be the right choice for certain particular applications. Before people are misled: 1) "Wikipedia doesn't have a 2.53Ghz Celeron. " Does it matter? Also, you're wrong. 2) "The provided specifications don't...

Reasonably cheap for a reliable workhorse machine running XP. Support for these machines is usually good, as there are a ton of them floating around various offices, libraries, etc. We must have had 50+ at one time and they were pretty rock solid ;...

Old, very old. You could spend a little more and get a lot more capable hardware. Non-standard PS inside, though we've never replaced one in our many machines
