Dell Studio XPS 7100

Priced at just over $1500 (as of August 1, 2010, as configured), the Dell Studio XPS 7100 is a mainstream desktop targeted at shoppers who want a PC that has enough muscle to tackle modern games and CPU-intensive tasks such as photo editing or light...

Attractive case ; Built-in Wi-Fi

Limited upgradability

Versatile, attractive, and capable--Dell’s Studio XPS 7100 lacks upgrade potential, but it's a strong contender for the media-savvy set.

Dell Studio s7100-1060NBK

The Dell Studio s7100-1060NBK is a general-purpose desktop that brings plenty of horsepower to the table for everyday applications and even includes expansion room for future hardware upgrades.

Strong overall performance. Room for expansion. No bloatware. 802.11n Wi-Fi adapter.

Anemic 3D performance. Flimsy mouse.

Dell Studio XPS 7100 review: Dell Studio XPS 7100

Dell Studio XPS 7100

Best value among midrange PCs for its features and gaming performance; Blu-ray drive; wireless networking card.

Limited upgrade path; clunky hard drive configuration; relatively slow application performance.

Dell configured the all-AMD Studio XPS 7100 squarely at gamers, throwing in a powerful 3D card to offset the slow six-core AMD CPU. The result is a fast gaming PC with well-rounded features for an affordable price thanks to a two-month-long special...

Dell Studio XPS 7100

The system has some internal expansion room, including space for 1 PCI card, two hard drives, and one optical drive. There are plenty of ports and space—it's just that most of the slots have already been populated. You'll have to pop out some of the...

Very good gaming performance. 6-core AMD Phenom II processor. Intelligent solution to bloatware problem. 15-month McAfee Security Center subscription. 802.11a/b/g/n wireless. Immobilizing bracket on graphics card. HDMI, eSATA, DisplayPort. Blu-ray

Less legacy technologies. Expansion space is mostly full

The Dell Studio XPS 7100 sits at a genre-straddling nexus as a multimedia PC that also plays 3D games well.

Best mainstream desktop computer

The Dell Studio XPS 7100 is a capable mainstream desktop, with power to spare for everyday computing and most processor-intensive tasks. It also is a more-than-respectable gaming machine, offering very good gaming performance for the price....

Excellent value, discrete graphics, good gaming performance

Not much room for upgrades, blu-ray drive costs extra

Dell Studio XPS 7100 Desktop Review

Dell Studio XPS 7100 Review

Dell is the first major computer manufacturer to market a desktop both with AMD's new Vision market branding as well as with their new six-core processors.

Attractive design ; Six-core CPU, powerful GPU ; THX-certified sound, Blu-ray drive ; Good value for the money

No TV tuner ; Wired keyboard and mouse

It was mentioned earlier that the original Studio XPS rated so well because it offered exceptional performance for a market-leading price. Despite putting out some quality computers, nothing Dell has offered since then has come close. The Studio XPS...

Dell Studio XPS 7100 review

The Dell Studio XPS 7100 is attractive, it offers a six-core AMD processor, and it bundles a few media-centric hardware extras, making for a surprisingly versatile package.

If you're unperturbed by the limited upgrade potential (a standard caveat for systems from the bigger PC vendors), the Dell Studio XPS 7100 is a solid choice. It combines an attractive chassis with strong general and gaming performance, and it adds...
