Dell XPS 8300 (X8300-4004NBK)

The Dell XPS 8300 (X8300-4004NBK) gives you an expandable and powerful quad-core desktop with enough space to store your digital life.

Speedy quad-core processor. DirectX 11-ready graphics card. eSATA port. HDMI port.

Out of place Dell Stage launcher. Criminally short 30-day subscription to McAfee Internet Security. No USB 3.0. Negligible 3D performance.

Dell XPS 8300 desktop review: Dell XPS 8300 desktop

Dell XPS 8300 desktop

The Dell XPS 8300 offers a pleasing exterior, broad connectivity features, and a reasonably versatile configuration for a fair price.

You can find PCs from other vendors that offer more performance and upgradability for less.

The Dell XPS 8300 will serve mainstream users as a higher-end do-it-all machine, but gamers and performance enthusiasts will be better off looking elsewhere.

Dell XPS x8300-1225NBK

The Dell XPS x8300-1225NBK is a nice mainstream desktop with good performance, but other competing systems have differentiators that make them shine brighter.

Quad-core, second-generation Intel Core processor. HDMI port. No Bloatware. Wi-Fi.

No USB 3.0. No Blu-ray. Only 30 days subscription to McAfee.

The Dell Studio XPS 8300 is a well-regarded mainstream desktop, with enough power for everyday tasks and a bit more. Though no one will mistake it for a dedicated gaming rig, gaming performance is not bad for the price. Although base...

Excellent value, discrete graphics, good gaming performance

Not much room for upgrades, doesn't play cutting-edge games well
