Dell XPS 600

If you can live with knowing that a handful of PCs out there are still faster than yours, we recommend Dell's versatile XPS 600 for the extensive features and the good value it provides.

Dell XPS 600 Review

This fast, expensive gaming system and Media Center PC suits the well-heeled gamer who rarely opens the case.

Clever case design for front door

Lacks easy expandability

The keyboard is small and light but still feels sturdy. It has eight small shortcut buttons; big, easy-to-reach multimedia control keys; and, best of all, a large volume control knob that you can easily find without looking at the keyboard

Dell XPS 600

While not the frames-per-second leader, the Dell XPS 600 makes a case for itself as a gaming PC for the multitasking multimedia hound.

Good gaming scores. Huge 24-inch widescreen display in package. Less expensive than its boutique competitors. Dual-core performance. 15-month McAfee security. Two TV tuners.

That darn kickstand.

Dell's high-end XPS 600

It's not the fastest PC, but the Dell XPS 600 is as fully featured a computer as we've seen. With a new chipset (non-Intel, no less), it even breaks new ground. We still wish Dell would adopt the extreme system-building tricks of its competition, but...

Versatile feature set and elite-level performance accommodate nearly any consumer or hobbyist; future-resistant 3D graphics capability; massive 1TB of hard drive space; outstanding speakers and a giant LCD turn the $5,000 price tag into a good deal.

AMD CPUs and in-house overclocking aren't offered; the bundled LCD doesn't handle SLI 3D cards smoothly; covering a $5,000 computer with only a one-year standard warranty is inexcusable.

If you can live with knowing that a handful of PCs out there are still faster than yours, we recommend Dell's versatile XPS 600 for the extensive features and the good value it provides.

Dell Dimension XPS 600

Built in the same case as the Gen 5, with a new "armor" front plate, the XPS 600 is still large, silver and black, and imposing. The case is plastic, so you don't get the solid feel of some all-metal cases from boutique vendors, but it helps keep the...

Two top-of-the-line graphics cards in an SLI (Scalable Link Interface) configuration. Top gaming scores. System stability. Huge 24-inch widescreen display. Less expensive than its overclocked competitors

Kickstand is annoying

The Dell Dimension XPS 600 has the power to help steamroll your opponents, and it's ready to play tomorrow's games too.

Dell XPS 600 (Pentium EE)

We've seen the Dell XPS 600 with a single-core Pentium 4 EE processor. Our latest look at the machine has a dual-core Pentium Extreme Edition 840 processor instead, pumped up to the maximum 3.6 GHz. While the fast EE 840 processor and dual GeForce 7800...

That darn kickstand

Above is a picture of the actual PILE of boxes that we received piece by piece from Dell. I know you can't tell from the picture, but this pile of boxes is over 4 feet high and 6 feet wide

Dell XPS 600 Renegade Systems Sell Out

We spoke with Dell yesterday and asked if they thought that the Dell XPS 600 Renegade was a success and their reply was, "It was intended to showcase our commitment to gaming". Our contact at Dell never did say it was a success and made it clear that...

Dell XPS 600 – SLI Gaming PC

Dell has been churning out impressive gaming systems of late. But is its latest desktop XPS as good as it could be?

On the right hand side of the system is a flap covering a cubby hole containing the front mounted ports: the usual complement, the two USB 2.0 ports, a full-size FireWire port and headphone and microphone sockets, the latter important for Skype and the...

PC Plus review: Dell XPS 600

It's fast but expensive, and although well designed, the proprietary nature is a drawback.
